Brock Exhaust Install Question...

I see in the instructions for my Shortmeg that you are supposed to put high temp rtv in the header joints. I was wondering if anyone had tried it without the rtv? I'm just not big on that stuff. Seems like it defeats the purpose of the spigots/springs.

Anyway, didn't want to bother emailing Brock on Easter...I figured I'd get some feedback from you guys.

Shane

After a year I took my system off...all the rtv was burned out of it and I only saw two very small leaks up where the headers slide on the header flanges.

I was thinking that may be the case. The permatex is only rated for 700 degrees, and exhaust gas temps are over 1300....

My Alien head system leaks badly at the collectors. Guess I'm going to have to take it back apart again and put more RTV in there.

I used Walker Exhaust sealant this time. I put it on ran 10 miles then took it back off to drop the pan. That shit works I had a hell of a time getting the pipes back appart... but got them apart, cleaned up and resealed with walker sealant no problems.
