long range travel?

What is the furthest any one has gone in a single day on their 14? I am thinking i want to ride mine to the races at Road Atlanta this weekend. That is just over 600 miles. 99% of it would be interstate riding. Just me and my backpack. What do you guys think? Mapquest says 9.5 hours. Probably quite a bit longer due to frequent gas stops. Any one pull an iron butt like this that can give me any pointers?

We did 1100+ miles in a single journey two-up once on a 12R but does that count?

800 miles. gas stops make it livable. Towards the end I would pull off at rest stops and stretch. It Was at the end of a 3500+ mile tour.
The pack pack might tire your lower back. a tank bag is better.
I have a tall cortech that I would lean on to rest my very shot rotator cuffs.
I also have heil risers. saves my wrists and spent shoulders.
You should have no problems.

Awesome, thanks for the replies. I have the throttle meister cruise control so I would be able to switch hands and even ride with no hands sometimes for a break. I have Vortex rear sets and the pegs are a little tighter to the bike than my stock pegs were but overall not too bad. I would need the back pack for my clothes and stuff. I will be gone 3-4 days. 600 miles up and 600 miles back.

i did 684 miles from plainview tx down to lubbock tx, over through roswell and stopped in tucson. that was on a 1650 mile 3day trip. all I had was an Ogio Tanker tank bag, a can of fix a flat zip-tied to the subframe, and basic tools to adjust my chain and pull fairings if need be.

I just did the Saddle Sore 1000 ( 1K miles in under 24 hrs) this weekend.
I did it in 21 hrs stopping for gas about every 120 miles or so, and keeping within the posted speed limit.
It was all freeway miles for the 1K measurement but I rode around San Francisco for an hour checking out the sites, and did the same in Sacramento.
Total miles were around 1150 and I was tired of course but not because the ZX14 was uncomfortable to ride. I have a double bubble windscreen, heli risers, buel pegs, throttle meister, and a tank bag. Which all help with long rides! I'm not sure how much weight you will have in your back pack but if you have the straps that go around your torso what would help your shoulders. Have a great ride!

I did the washington peninsula all in one day on a huge ride with about 100 bikes. That was 500 miles or so and I wouldn't want to go much further. Cruising on my bike isn't fun for me. I was really wore out because we were hitting 150mph on every straight, and dragging pegs where ever possible. Good luck and don't fall asleep! haha

went 600 miles from northern va to southern maine. took the 800 mile scenic way home. the pic is from the top of hogsbreath mountain in vermont. both ways were single day rides. i have the throttle meister but stock seat and no risers. i removed the rubber pads from the foot pegs and threw a peice of sheep skin on the seat and was pretty comfortable. a good pair of compression shorts can make a world of difference for those of us not still in our twenties

i would ride naked... but i'd be afraid i'd burn it off or get it hung in the chain . the limiting factor i definitely the seat. i was still able to go 240 miles or so between rests.

1,100 miles (1,700 kilometers) from Ottawa Ontario to Deals Gap. Rode around for a week then did the 1,100 miles (1,700 kilometers) trip back. I guesstimate that I completed 3,100 + miles (5,000 + kilometers) in a week time frame.

Now you are talking my language! Me and 4 other kawasakis, one of which is on this board rode to Mobile, Alabama from Northern Jersey for me and Long Island for him. It was Mid-November. We did the first leg to a town south of Atlanta and it was a little under a 1,000 miles for him. It took about 21 hours for me from my doorstep. You factor in steady rain and long stops to dry off and warmup a little bit and we may have gotten there sooner. The second day was much shorter and not a problem at all compared to the previous day. I was fine. my back did not hurt. I even partied all night once we did get to Mobile. Then we turned around and rode back in the freezing cold two day home. The 14 is the bike for it. Very comfortable.

2600 miles in four days of riding. Throw your leg over your 14 and hit the road. 1000 miles was extreme and you can't enjoy anything once you stop so the mileage you are trying to do is ideal. I would listen to the other guy and get saddle/tail/tank bags. Warning: the rain covers that come with them will blow off when you go over 120 with them. Ask me how I know, lol.

He must mean what they called spandex back in the 80's lol. I wear the Under Armor Cold Gear. $100 for the set but they are worth it for helping to cut the wind some. I have the regular ones for the summer. Basically I never let my skin come into direct contact with my gear. It adds for a morecomfortable ride. I'm kicking forty in the ass by the way.

I did Cincinnati OH to Atlanta GA Yahoo Maps says 472 miles. Not a bad ride at all I could have pumped out more miles. I made 4 gas stops on the the way about every 100 miles that was more frequently then I would have if I was alone but guy with me was on a Cruiser and he only got at most 120 miles to the tank. We left 5am arrived around 130 or 200pm. Now when we got ready to leave next day we had hella trouble finding gas because that was the time they where having gas shortage in that area. Happy trails enjoy the ride.

600 miles in one day and how it affects you depends on what mileages you're used to. A few years back I was doing that sort of daily mileage on a regular basis, all weathers, week after week. It was no problem.

Today my riding is mostly for leisure, less frequent and much shorter distances, I would take it easy, enjoy the ride and stop for a coffee as well as gas.

Compression shorts are designed to keep "The Twig & Berries" in one comfortable spot.
Not such a nice feeling to hit a bump that tosses you up from the seat only to land on the berries. thereby, nuttin' yourself.

I don't have the fantastic stories of long rides yet, but regularly travel 300 miles from Spokane to Seattle. I've got the Heli Risers and will be in looking for some sort of Cruise Control. The wife promised me she'd ride with me this year from Spokane to San Diego. Her ride is an '07 650r Ninja. We'll be doing that probably in May or June. The snow is finally going away after a record-breaking year.
