17/40 is taller than stock, if you trying to drag race that's not going to work for you. 16/43 is going to be tough if you are still stock wheel base. There's no easy combo, unfortunately , you just have to figure out exactly what you want to do with the bike.

Is the Shinko the U-soft ? I think the 16/43 would be the closer choice for you. Before you shorten the bike check your tire and shock settings to get the best out of the 65". I've seen bikes longer than that hook with U-softs !

Brock ran his best 1/4 mile times with 17/40 gearing, He said this helped keep the wheelies down in first gear on stock wheelbase. I just changed my stock wheelbase to 16/40 and as soon as the weather permits I'm going to see how that works with SWB.

I ran 6.00s with 16/40 gearing when I was SWB, but couldn't get into the fives. Brock's bike is FLYING and he has "jockeys" running those low times that you see. Ricky is running that combo on his Brock sponsored/tuned SS14 but its probably real close to 200hp !

I'm 65in with 16-44. I have run the same numbers with 16-43 though. If you really want to eliminate traction problems, get a shinko 008 slick. they are cheap. I have to run 10-12psi in a U soft or power race to hook, but i run 24-27psi in the 008 shinko and hook if that tells you anything.
the longer wheelbase will be easier to ride once you get it working right.

smokin just did some testing on the 17/40 combo on his stock wheelbase bike. Said that it worked much better than 17/41. I would say that if you're not having wheely problems you should run the lower gearing. What gearing are you running now?

A lighter guy can get away with tall gearing. Heavy guys need the gear. I get faster everytime i gear lower. Especially considering hes extended. Also saves clutches.

I run 16/43 at 69" and a shinkio 003 (not ultrasoft) and I have no problem with spinning... 1.42 60ft. Imo I wouldn't shorten the bike bc of wheelspin when it isn't that long now. I'd get the suspension/tire right. Like said above, MUCH easier to ride at longer wheelbase!

Look usually gearing isnt a cut and dry answer..............BUT if your talking a 200 pound rider at 65 inches theres no F&%$n way you should be using 17/40 gearing............the only reason Smokin and Gadsen are running that gearing is because they are STOCK WB and fairly light riders.

I have brock springs and spacers, dont really think they help with leaving. definately firmer clutch feel. I am about to go to stock springs and CL lockup for more feel and see what happens

I run 16/41 on the street. At the track I run 16/44. I have tried the track combo on the street while stretched and lowered, it's alot of fun!
