water wetter

Few questions, my 14 is a 06 and I'm trying to help cool it down a little so I picked a bottle of "water wetter" up at advance auto yesterday. The directions says put one oz per quart of auto cooling system... So whuile I'm doin this, I figured its time to drain the radiator and replace all the fluid. Are you guys putting straight 50/50 antifreeze/water back in? And how much of the "water wetter" would you suggest?? Any advice would be appreciated!

I live in south ga, so it dosent get below freezing that often. And on the bottle it says you can run it and water only...

I had the dumb idea that anitfreeze was a coolant as well... You think pour the whole bottle of wetter in with just water?

The coolant capacity is 3.6 qts. I would say that 3-4 oz. of water wetter would do the job, with distilled water.

But someone else may say differently...

The bottle says how much water it is supposed to be diluted with. I wouldn't even use the whole bottle. Just measure how much water you're using (or measure how much fluid you drained out of your bike) and then figure out how much of the water wetter you'll be using.

No antifreeze. Antifreeze does NOT have the same cooling capabilities as just straight water, plus water wetter is meant to perform best with distilled water.

Good call on the distilled water Shane. I forgot about that.

... I thought about that, and think I'm gonna put maybe half a quart to a quart of antifreeze to be on the safe side..

The one I use does both. Kawasaki Aluma Cool Engine Coolant from the stealer. You mix 50/50 Aluma Cool and distilled water.

"Aluma cool Radiator Coolant is formulated to protect Kawasaki cooling systems against corrosion, boiling or freezing, especially those with aluminum components........protects against freezing to -34 degrees F and overheating to 265 degrees F in a 15 P.S.I. pressurized system. A 50% mixture will prevent rust and corrosion in the entire system."

All I did was add a few ounces extra coolant/distilled water and that seemed to help a lot. Fluid level is stil between "HIGH" and "LOW" on resivour. I do not believe we had many days over 90 F last Summer however. If you're a Southerner, you might need Water Wetter. I've always heard it is an excellent product.

anti-freeze is also a coolant thats why it says anti-freeze/coolant on the jug. it does more than just prevent freezing it also raises the boil over temp as well as providing lubricants and corrosion inhibiters which is important on aluminum engines and radiators. it does not shed heat as rapidly as straight water because it is designed to carry heat from the engine to the heat exchanger(radiator)

So you guys are saying, instead of paying $40 for engine ice I would have been better off buying $2 of distilled water from walmart?

^^^Perhaps pure water would cool off faster in the radiator but if it goes in the motor and boils that doesn't improve anything. Boiled water is a gas and a gas will not carry heat away from the hot spots in the motor. Engine Ice and Water Wetter make the coolent so that it will not boil at running temp so you have liquid touching in the hot spots, not vapor. I think Engine Ice was agood choice, but from what I've heard, Water Wetter is the same stuff in concentrated form and it's a lot cheaper.

The water shouldn't boil because the system is pressurized.

But the ads for engine ice and such do imply an improvement in this regard...
