My zx14 is using oil....
Im using up almost a quart of oil every 1500 miles or so in my 08 14 with 9000 miles... Is this excessive?

Well its more like 3/4, I just went and looked at the quart. But that still seems like a lot. I have always had to add oil to this thing, but im now just takeing note on how much it is using. Its not smokeing and its not leaking.. Where the heck is it goin?

High speed run could be pumping a little oil up into the air box and burning it off ..You would not see it smoking if this is happening... Check the air box for oil .. As hard as you run it 3/4 of a QT in 1500 miles might not be that bad .. My 06 and 09 use no oil but i only drag race and i change it more offten that most people ... If all you are going to do is top end or high speed stuff you may want to step up to a 15 50 or 20 40 Wt oil , that may help .. Where do you try to keep it in the sight glass ?

That does seem way too much. I live in the DFW area in Texas and we do a lot of playing
too. My 07 has 4K and no oil loss, check you air box. If it keeps doing this and box is clean have a compression test done.

Due to the fact that this motor runs in the 220 degree range the oil may be evaporating. All oils have an evaporation rating, some better than others. I have run only Mobil 1 and Amzoil without a problem. Synthetics don't have the same ratings. Try a new brand and monitor usage.

Since your warranty runs out in July, Get it to the dealer while you still have a chance. Just my thought.

Mine uses about 1/2 to a 1qt between oil changes, no leaks and i use Mobil 1. I usually drain it until it drips and put 4 qts in, never had a problem in 10k miles. Its normal to use a little espically if you ride these bikes hard, usually over a 1qt is execessive though, definatley take it back before warranty runs out.

You can also look into and get an extended warranty from ebay for less than $400 to cover your bike if things get worse later on. I am not a fan of extended warranties much, but I got one for the ZX since it was the first model design... but in your case, since you are already seeing some excessive oil usage, why not?

I did and since i fixed my leaking cam cover the motor is dry and clean as can be.
I drove up to houston a spent $155.00! on 6 quarts (bought one extra) of Royal Purple 20 50, a new K&N oil filter and a new factory air filter. The original factory air filter had 9000+ miles on it and looked like hell but did not let anything through. The air box looked good, i saw no oil in it. The overflow res for the oil was empty to. I will keep careful track on how much oil it uses over the next 1000 miles. That wont take long....
