Turbo PSI observations

After bumping up the PSI from 6 to 7, here is an observation I have made. In gears 2 and 3, 7 PSI will show near the top of the RPM range at WOT. In gears 4 and higher at WOT I have not seen 7 show up, 6 yes, but I also have not had enough non traffic open road to get to 10K in 4th as well.

For those of you all with turbos at 7 or higher, does your 7, or whatever the max value is, come on sooner in your RPM range?

What is normal to expect?

It should make full boost by 7000 rpm in any gear I think, but best talk to ZXbob, or Harry
Try psychobike or turbobikes.org bro... many more boosted bikes on there,

Sounds like you have an air leak, or are overfueled making egt's low, and boost sluggish.

Just a guess, as I will only beginning going through all this in a few months myself....

LMK what you find out though..

how are you controlling boost. how are you getting your measurement.

Maybe your controller is set a hair less than your guage for 7 psi.
Hence you could be 6.99 and not see your 7.
I had that problem on a pressure switch set a hair too high.
Both where set at 4 psi but the switch never clicked until i moved it 1/16 turn.

Yeah, I don't know whats up.

It is an 'acutator' gadget on the side of the turbo, controlling a small valve in the turbo.

it has an 'arm' that adjusts the length , shorter more PSI.... and turns via a nut adjustment. No definitive clicks,

I may just be to new to this turbo and how it works.. so I'll take some time to observe for a while more.

Weather has a huge affect on boost. On a hot day i'll see boost at 6K W.O.T.

On a cool day i'll see boost as low as 3K @ part throttle.

Bob

The guy I got my turbo from said he was seeing full boost (8psi) 6500-7000 rpm on average if I remember right. JC you should definately be hitting 7psi way before 10 grand. In the higher gears the boost should come on quicker than the lower gears. On my first turbo I had an exhaust leak that gave the same symptoms as you're getting. Check for exhaust or boost leaks. Also you can check your turbo to be sure its spinning free. And be sure you have the airbox sealed up good

Bad:

Good list. My air box is sealed nicely, no exhaust leak that I can detect. I can take the p;ropellar and spin it free, and after shutting down the engine it takes a bit for hit to spin down as well.

I will go back over the bike again/more. Maybe I have to twitch that actuator arm just a tad more. I will try that next. if my re-check comes up negtative (again).

LOL, I meant what RPM, throttle position, gear etc ...?

Basically I am thinking of a larger turbo, but don't want a laggy dog...

JDC,
there are a couple holes in the airbox / frame that can be easilly missed.
There is 1 in the steering tube, that would have you bossting the steering bearings and seals, and also one drain hole right at the base of the steering tube.....

^This is one of the reasons I wanted a plenum instead of boosting the airbox.

dubious,

Yes, thank,s. The two up front and rest of larger are all closed off. Harry was pretty thorough I think about what to fill up.

I am going to tick up the actuator a little and see if that gets it into the 'full' 7 PSI. ^ is there just right so maybe a little more pressure on keeping the valve closed.

ZXBob. are you using the actuator as well?

JDC, if it helps mine was adjusted at 6 and needed only minor adjustment. I sent zxbob my first dyno tune, if it will help I don't mine if it is forwarded. Bob is way helpful when around. I also know Harry strives for 100% customer satisfaction and if things are not working right please give him a call at 818-785-2900.

Patriot,

Yes, mine was at six as well.

I think the actuator is working ok... it just has some little 'range' it seems.

I have gone to a wastegate and cranked the actuator all the way max. Boost comes on just a tad earlier I think and seems stable so far. Still pretty early to tell.
