BLOCK OFF PLATES
Not sure how these work or help the performance on a stock 14 (06) with flies removed. They have them at my shop for $69.95.
Thanks

what exactly do the air reed block offs accomplish, and are they beneficiary?

I just pulled the hoses and crap.
Then plugged the inlet to the frame and reed plates.
screw it, I'm the only one who will see it.
The main benefit for me was to get the A/F reading right on a dyno tune.
Some guys say it helps with "pop" I dunno.
Mine pops on decell on certain throttle settings, I like it...,I think.

i bought mine cause i could not get rid of the decel pop. and I was told that block off plates help with pop by removing the reed valve that causes pop. well when removing the reed valve and hoses realized that when installing my pipe i forgot to unplug the reed valve wiring harness. and you just plug the line when you put on a pipe but mine had come loose. now if i had of disconnected the plug to the reed vale this would not have made a difference as the plug in the frame stayed in place. but with the cap off the hose (that normally goes to the frame and the reed valve still plugged in the engine was sucking air from the engine bay which was causing the pop. THIS WAS TOTALLY MY FAULT. and once I unplugged the reed valve the pop almost all but went away. But by the time I realized my mistake and already had the reed valve covers off the valve cover and the muzzy plates sitting there so I said screw it and installed the muzzys. there not really necessary if you cap off the lines and unplug the connector that goes to the reed valve but they are a nice set up and well made. and they come with a nice aluminum plug for the air box instead of the standard plastic job that comes with most pipes.
now to find the block off plates the easiest way to find them is once you have the fairings off, look at the bottom of the frame just above the top of the engine. there is one hose about 1/2 inch in diameter going from the frame(airbox) to the reed valve that then splits to 2 hoses that go to the reed covers.(these are what the block off plates replace) the hose is east yo find as it is the only one that goes to the frame and you can trace it from there to the reed valve. all in all if I had it to do again I would still install the plates, there a nice part and not hard to install. but it is a tight fit which makes for slow going so crack a cold one relax and take your time.
Also the whole task can be done start to finish with the tools in your bikes tool kit. I found this out after realizing my T-handle wrenches will not fit in such a tight place. just a tip. Good luck

Thanky-you so much of the answer, now what are the benefits or gains besides getting rid of the poping

Ok, correct em if I'm wrong but is there a mod you can do where you connect the reed valvel tube to the PCV valve to help vent the case?
The lower pressure you have in the crank the easier it is to spin the motor meaning more HP?
A local shop here suggested venting the crank through the block offs and dump that crank pressure into the exhaust.
Anyone done that or any other type of crank pressure reduction mod?

the pop is and the dyno tune are all its really good for. but they both can be done with out block off plate if you cap lines and unplug the reed valve.
I also run a brocks alien head and it does still pop. hell find and aftermarket pipe that doesn't. but the pop is far less. if the plates did not help to reduce the pop I'd take them off and look at the gasket between them and the valve cover. The gaskets are reused with the block off plates and can some times be damaged when taking off the old reed covers. if this happens then they wont seal properly and can cause suction and subsequent popping. So I'd inspect them and mabe replace the gaskets. just a tip.
my pop is most noticeable when i am hard through 1st gear and then easy into second. It doesn't like to go from full throttle to part throttle. easily fixed with the clutch lever but I tend to agree that a little pop from time to time it cool.

I'll check them again. Thanks for the tip.
Mine really blasts @ 3,500 RPM in any gear and at will.
It's good and bad- no need for a horn and a definite need
for ear plugs.

I know I will catch hell for this but Ivans TRE008 new model that shows you are in N on the gear indicator Will Stop the popping . I have one that was on the 07 when I got it two months ago and several other 06 ZX-14 I ride with have different brands of full 421 exhausts with a PC and a good map and the Popping Quit on theirs with TRE. So Flame away at me but I am saying what I SEE on these 3 ZX-14's. Was this Luck or does his TRE work. I for one Don't like flames and a back fire, hey what ever makes you happy.
And I just ordered the Muzzy plates as I did not know I could vent to the PVC...I will wait and see if anyone has does this. Sounds like a Good idea.

I won't flame you as you are right on- the TRE006 will eliminate
the pop. So will the X-tre:
"It gets rid of fuel shut-off on decell - This will allow smooth on/off throttle transitions and will get rid of the annoying pop when the throttle is reapplied"
Many people have confirmed that in their own findings too.

this is true but people have also gotten lower dyno readings and ET's with the tre006. its just preference. the draw backs to a tre are small but for me and this is only my opinion I don't want a tre. I like my gear indicator and the pop is minimal
