07 owner, to PC3 or not PC3, that is the question....

Hi guys,

I used to be active on the other site but work took more of my time, and now that site is gone so here is my new home.

So here is my situation... I know everyone here loves the flies out setup, but for my purposes, I am fairly ok with my current setup which is just a TRE, and scorpions CF slip ons. (which I might go back to stock as I like the quietness of the stock exhausts.)

I had the bike dyno'ed to see if it is running too lean or not, and it is not... it is slightly lean, but overall the throttle response is pretty good as it is, and dyno didn't show any ridiculously lean spots anywhere.

I do have a PC3 that I bought new and has been sitting in my garage since I bought it a couple of months ago (haven't had a chance to play with it yet), but I have been thinking if I am happy with the current setup, I should just skip the PC3 altogether. Also, I barely get to ride my bike these days, with work and baby at home and ...

I was also thinking about selling the bike and get an 09 ... love the green color... but in this economy, not a good logical move, especially considering the low price of used bikes.

What do you guys think? if I am fairly happy with the current setup, is it worth keeping the PC3 and playing with maps and such, especially if I end up not taking out the flies?

Since you already got the pc, it won't hurt it at all. As for buying a new one just for the color, I think ud be better to get the plastics painted.

With your setup and needs I wouldn't bother with the PC3.

Sell the PC3 and use the money for something that you will get some real use out of.

Just my .02....

Im gonna agree with Shane, the best indicator is to pull a plug and look. if it looks good i would leave well enough alone.

Thanks for the replies guys.

eclipse, I am sure having the pc3 is not going to hurt anything, and if anything, with the right map, it will make it more smooth and ride-able. But the time to install it and look for the right maps and fine tuning and all, that is the main factor for my present dilemma.

shane, pazx, thanks for the feedback... yeah, the plugs are coming up. I have 6800 miles on the bike, and the recommended plug change interval is 7500 ... which is kinda of a short interval if you ask me... I think I heard somewhere that the euro spec allows for a much longer interval than 7500, and that this might be a U.S. emissions thing. In any case, I will more than likely change the plugs in the next couple of thousand miles, and see how they look. As I mentioned earlier, the dyno run didn't show any significant lean spots, but that might have been due to dyno being done at full throttle perhaps?

Hey faz man! Good to hear from you again. Welcome.

If you are not going to use the PCIII, sell it now before the PCV catches on. If you don't want to mess around trying maps, spend $500 on a PCV with Autotune some day down the road. If that sounds like more than you will want to spend, I'd keep what you have.

Tough call, I really like how much better mine runs with the pcIII, flies out, area p cans, ivans 006 tre & custom map. It just made it much easier to ride, no sudden lurching from on/off throttle & completely eliminated backfiring. I really never liked how dead it felt at low rpm's. Have to admit I'm a bit of a speed freak too, got tickets to verify.

hi Rook... good to see old faces here... for the record, I always thought we should all just go to one website, and this one seemed to be 'busier' and better maintained (speed, discussions) than the other one anyway... so yeah, I am glad everyone is here so we can have a bigger pool of people to share info with.

Selling it is not a problem... I don't even mind keeping it on the shelf... it is more the trouble of putting it on (as little a trouble as it may be) and then finding the right map that has me thinking twice about it.

my 2 yr daughter just woke up and ran in the room .. will get back here later to finish this up.
