Need to change oil in Spring?
I changed the oil last thing before I put her to bed for the winter, only ran her long enough to get oil circulated and then shut her down and covered her up, should I change again in the spring or just drive away and changes at my regular 5000km interval? Also what interval are you guys going between changes? I use Kaw filters with Mobil MX4T oil.

The oil turns acidic as it sits in the engine... there are additives in it to neutralize it, so those additives are depleted as the time goes by. You are using synthetic oil, so that is better (has more additives, lasts longer than normal oil from that point of view)...
overall, I would do an oil change before AND right after storing the bike for the winter (I don't have to store the bike here in CA, but if I were in colder climates, I would.) In fact, I would not use synthetic for the storage (just from cost point of view) as I would change it out right before riding it after storage anyway.
So I guess since you have used synthetic, you should be ok to just ride with it, but if it were me, I would change it.
I normally do change my bike's oil every 3k-4k miles with synthetic (same Mobil1 MX4T oil.) Overkill, I guess, but makes me feel good and that is all that matters.

Bullshit, dont change it. The oil only becomes acidic when it is used. Unless the oil has excessive condensation, take it out and run it for a half hour or so to vaporize any moisture in the engine. That oil is made here at our local ExxonMobil plant and I have talked many times with the engineers about this stuff when we worked on vacuum systems in their lab.

I wouldnt waste the money. go by your normal schedule but like jockey said if theres a chance it could draw alot of moisture where its sitting then i would, I go every 3000 miles and thats dragracing and street running. I just removed my pan after 9000 miles and more than 200 passes at the track absolutely nothing in the bottom of my pan, and no clutch material, i was quite impressed, and still on the original clutches!

No way, fire it up run it like a fresh oil change. Acidic contamination of oil stems from the carbon which is a by product of an internal combustion engine. The more your run one the more acids are suspended. Carbon and acidic contamination are what turn used oil black. If you didn't run it anymore than that your fine.

Nope, if it had new oil in it as you say when you put it away! Simply go runner and have fun. I change my oil every 3000km and the filter every second oil change. Did the same on my ZX11 for over 60,000km no problems. The guy I sold the 11 to has kept up my practices and is up around 80,000km now. The engine/trans/clutch have never been touched other than a valve adjustment about every 25,000km.
I truly question the need for synthetic oil as well. Kawasaki recommends dino oil. 10-40. I have used Castrol GTX 10-40 for years in my bikes without ever having any kind of engine or trans failure. I think that synthetic is more to brag on. Maybe, just maybe if you are operating in extreme temps under heavy loads for long periods of time you might consider going to synthetic but for most of us and the conditions we operate our bikes under dino is fine.
These bikes are so powerful that operating it on the street to the point that you need synthetic you will be dead long before the bike!!

I stand corrected. My first sentence 'oil turns acidic as it sits in the engine' is wrong when it comes to fresh oil sitting in an unused engine. I think I was confused between leaving the old oil (with contaminants already in it) in the engine vs. having fresh oil in it.
Still, many 'winterization' suggestions out there recommend changing the oil prior to the first ride, and I would do it for my personal peace of mind, but I don't think it is necessary. The main thing is to get rid of the old oil before winterization which seems you have already done.

Curious to why? I use 2 change it before and after but then realized its a waste of my money if im not usin it. I figured 4 months of the oil that was left in it is fine because be4 my 1st ride of the new year i put fresh oil in before it moves.

I wouldn't waste the money or oil, it wil be fine. I've let oil sit longer in some of my beemers & gone way over 100k on all of em without ever doing any engine damage. All on regular oil never synthetic.

Just watch it in the site glass. If for any reason it seems darker in the first few hundred miles change it. I doubt that will happen. These are clean running gas motors, not diesels or chevy's!!
