Extended Warranty worth the money?
Hi all, I have an 08 unmodified other than a fender eliminator and what not. Is it worth the money for the 3 year extended warranty or not? It costs nearly $1300 up here. Has anyone been having any problems or am I better off using the money for something else?

My ZX-14 is three years old in May. I have had just one cosmetic problem with it so far, the silvering on the mirrors was failing around the edges. This was covered by the standard warranty, two new mirrors were supplied. Other than that the bike has been 100% reliable. Although the mileage is low it has worked hard doing over 100 top-speed runs and some standing quarters too.
I would not buy the warranty. The bikes are well screwed together, by 08 there should be no build problems. In the unlikely event of an out-of-warranty catastrophe costing more than $1300 you may find Kawasaki would offer some help. In the mid 1990's I had one of the ZZR1100's, a C3 model, which had a gearbox failure out of warranty. Kawasaki provided the parts and I just paid for the workshop time.

I've had mine sine 06 and have had many hundreds of passes at the 1/4 mile and no problems that a warranty would cover. I say its not worth the money. If it would make you feel better you could put that $1300 in a savings account or something in that manner and. Keep it there for 3 years... Me, I'd buy a exhaust and pc with it!

That sounds like the mantra most harley riders give for the reason to buy a Harley. Never ever buy a toy as an investment, and for me at least if I buy used warranty or no warranty has nothing to do with it. Extended warrantys are a huge profit maker for the industrys, so much that they push them on almost everything you buy, from toasters to trucks. Also it may or may not be any good depending on whatever mods you decide to do. You have untill the end of your original warranty to decide, and by that time you will know if you needit or not.

If i felt like I needed to buy an extended warranty when buying the vehicle I would find another vehicle I had more confidence in the build quality. You have a year to decide after you buy it so why do it upfront? Also you can get better deals on that if you shop around. ANy dealer can sell it to you. I even see them on ebay for cheaper.

Keep the money in your pocket…
If the cost of the extend warranty was $200 it might be worth the “peace of mind”, but anything more is just stupid.
This bike is well screwed together in my last 5 Kawasaki bikes the only time I have ever dropped big coin on repairs it was for stuff not covered under warranty (i.e. Garbage Truck Backed over the bike etc..).

Never ever needed a warranty. Even with a warranty often time the manufacturer will try to get out of paying. I always decided if I had some type of catastrophic failure I would go with a turbo on a rebuild.

I did get the extended warranty...as I recall it was around $400. As a rule I try to warrant a vehicle for the life of the loan. I don't plan on opening the engine however...well ok, I did remove the flies.

I got the extended warranty. I have a '07 bought Nov 07. I had a tank issue that was covered under warranty and really I am just into the extended portion of coverage. I think I paid $600-700 in NJ. I got a good deal on the bike and I had the money at the time and figured if one thing goes wrong I'm covered.
Sounds like you are being overcharged. It is insurance for the "unforeseen event" so shop around if you feel better with the coverage.

If you remove the flies (which everyone in their right mind does), it voids the warranty anyway. Mine ran out 2 days ago......

I had a zx7R that i purchased the extended warranty...needless to say it dropped a valve very close to the experation on the warranty. I did alot of devastation ruined the head, piston etc. I did not pay a dime. I had all new locks but on the bike due to binding, Its called a peace of mind and i think alot of it depends on your dealer. I have a really good dealer that i am friends with. I have 5 yrs on my 14 when i purchased it. I havnt used any of my warranty but doesnt say in the next three years i wont. Its your choice if you want to spend the money i see it as a good insurance policy!

Depends on your relationship with your dealer.
I was assured even with my mods that any real defect would be presented to KHI in such a way that warranty would be covered.

I never buy extended warranty on anything, period.
The insurance companies that sell them are banking on the odds that nothing will go wrong.
Put the benefits of the same odds into your pocket, just keep the money.

+1...
I double checked with my dealer (before I did it) that removing the flies, in and of it's self, would not automatically void any warranty.

Yeah I'll probably hold off getting it. I wish things were cheap up here in Canada like down there. I called dealers in 7 provinces today and they all quoted me the same price which is $1080 plus tax, works out to $1300 or so. And that's for 3 years not 4 like some of u said. But I'm not overly surprised it also costs me $19 a liter for Mobil 1 MXT4 here so I think just about everything is more expensive. Thx for your input.

These bikes are bullet proof except for the odd lemon, and you will likely not ever have a manufacture related issue if you haven't in the first 3000 miles / 5000 km.
I think its a waste of money....

Thats bad.
As I recall now, getting a extended warranty after the initial purchase was spendy.
Sit the $$ in the bank for rainy/frozen days!!

Remember US to Canadian dollar conversion. $1000 Canadian is about $800 US. Also people may confuse the 3/4 yr warranty. The bike comes with one year + 3 yr extended is 4 years (1 + 4 is 5 yrs) .
