Kept the stock, just bandsawed off the psg peg and mount. Cheap and effective.

quote: nice pic! no I didn't mean that, I ride different bikes for serious cornerspeed, the 14 was my sport tourer on pretty roads (although I could stick my leg out and lean way off enough to drag it on the 14 too) :P
without extreme lean off the bike and being bumped into drifting (14 beast I'd have been slower in the turn and dead!)-

quote: hey steve... is that a dude riding on the back of your bike?

No you haven't drank so much you're seeing double, those really are the wheels of his bike showing next to mine

Screen shot of my youtube vid of my friend on his badass little 636, and one of me from last falls ride. I watch those videos whenever I really get the itch to ride during these crappy winter days.

Hmm. Funny, I always thought that his 636 photo was a steeper lean angle than my 14 snapshot, but if you look really closely (or use a degree caliper like I did) you will see that my lean is actually steeper than his, but something about the layout of the windscreen makes it look less. And both of those leans were peg scraping btw.

Sticks, do you think that one pic is "max" lean angle for a 636? My avatar pic is leaned further than that pic of me and the guy dog fighting above lol
And when a 636 is at x degrees leaned, do you think the corner speed of a ZX14 is as fast with all its weight at the same x lean angle in the same turn?
I guess I'm missing a point here.

Sticks, did you REALLY get a degree caliper out and measure the pics on you monitor?
a 636 doesn't have to lean near as far to maintain the same corner speed as a ZX14 has to lean

We want to see some tire pics...
if the wear is not at the very edge- you should lean it further!
But then... the brake side lower fairing on the zx14 with the
stupid little bulge in it will start dragging, that is if you're thrown
the Hardley stock pegs in the garbage where they belong! If not-
the feeler pegs on the oems will drag first.
And that 636 will still do circles around you!

Oh sticks has the ruffled tire pics on his 14!
I want to see the pics of the caliper he used to measure those pics on his monitor to analyze his and his friends lean angle !

Fish, this thread is proof men just can't stay focused (on passenger pegs) without titties and beer.

Don't have a way to photo it today, but this one is similar:

And I measured your pic and your avatar steve, my 14 is leaned 'bout 1 degree further. Remember I put aftermarket springs on my bike and with the proper settings my bike doesn't scrape. I've actually only hit my pegs a couple times, I normally hit the toes of my boots first. Size 16 boots kinda get in the way...
My friends 636 should have a degree or two more lean capability than my bike, since he has adjustable rearsets, but I was following him in that vid and he was scraping knee, foot and a brief hit of peg on that particular corner which is why I choice it.
But you're totally right about it being able to turn a corner faster than my 14. If I follow his line and lean angle exactly (which I used to be able to do with my TL1000R) i will end up in the ditch. That was a very rude suprise the first time I followed him on a fast ride- I used to be able to scratch my balls, adjust my vents and zippers and such mid corner when I followed him on my TLR through tight stuff- it was just that much better a handling bike than his 636. Now I'm pushing HARD, hanging off way more, using more of the lane, etc. to try and stay in his mirror at the corner exit. Guy always looks back after a particularly difficult set of corners to see if he managed to put a gap on me... lol
Oh yeah, here is that pic of my stocker tire. Had only a couple fast rides on it, 95% of the miles were commuting to work. I never could wear it to the edge, was either because it's got a bigger shoulder radius than my PP 2CT's or because I hadn't done my front fork springs yet and the sag was wrong:
