Frankenstien: resurected

When I first started this project I lived 200 miles from any drag racing track, and the intent was to build a "Bull Run" and street drag style bike. I needed comfort, power, less weight, great suspension, and decent cornering.
In 2007 I rode my zx14 with a 6 " arm, Brocks smeg, no flies, 50 hp shot, and an airshifter across western Canada, and found it to be very capable, and veryfast, and quite comfortable. Infact the faster it was ridden the more comfortable it was.
2007-

Well the last year has been hectic, in some ways hell, but in the end the sacrifice has been worth it.
My familly and I enjoy our new home and the place we live much more.

After moving , finnishing the new house, garage, landscaping, and taking on 2 new contracts, working out of town half the time during my extensive home life changes, I have finally been able to get back to the PROJECT.

Most know I have commenced installing gsxr wheels, YZFR6 tail section last February.

I also had ordered a list of parts back in January of 2008 ,

but home life and my career would not allow me to complete FRANKENSTEIN, infact there were so many changes going on in my life I had to shelve the project all together.

Here is the list I started accumulating since November, 2007:
-GSXR wheels
-GSXR Forks
-YZFR6 tail
-Macintosh 4-8 arm
-Ohlins steering damper
-resprung ohlins cartridges for the gsxr forks
-resprung and revalved ohlins rear shock
-adams straight link
-dunlopad hh brake pads
-galfer rotors
-galfer superbike lines- modified
-custom Rizoma resevoirs (no Hoses)
-Billet rear brake reservoir
-custom GSXR rear master cylinder
-Gilles adj clip ons
-Bestem carbon - replaced by 1 piece catalyst side pieces
-ATP Turbo GT30r external wastegate
-HPC fuel rail
-RCC 550 injectors
-Big cc billet velocity stacks
-MTC lockup street
-MTC slider track
-MSD SB6
-MSD shift light
-Bazzaz
- Innovate LMA1, LMA3, (and yet to be purchased DL-32, TCH-4)
-AMS1000 progressive controller
- Orient Quick clutch cover
-adams 2" billet oil pan
-FBG back cut transmission
-Factory pro shift kit
-Brocks frt strap kit
-Adams adjustable links for the straight arm
-Carillo rods -special length
-JE 9.5:1 custom turbo pistons, thermal and friction coated
-Internally balanced, polished, fluted crank
-balanced and bluprinted rotating assembly,
- billet counterbalncer dummy shafts
-Cooper CNC head porting, CNC radiused valve job, oversize ferrera exhaust valves/b]

I originally had machined zx14 t clamps to fit the gsxr wheel but did not like the result.
So, GSXR tripple clamps and a zx14 steering stem have been mated together.
The zx14 ohlins steering stabilizer brackets have been modified and mated to the billet gsxr 1000 top clamp, and the gsxr 1000 bottom t clamp has been machined and the zx14 stem post has been pressed and tolerance fitted.

It took a couple try's to get the rear wheel aligned too...rotor, caliper, wheel center, and sprocket offset...

.................................................................................................................................................

The YZFR6 subframe was mated last year before I became interrupted with life.

I had the custom zx14-R6 seat pan covered, but for some reason the uphloster decided to modify the pan I delivered, so it would be easier to cover, and so now it must go back to be done properly, and as I had instructed initially.

The crank has been at the machine shop for the past few weeks, checked for true, polished and chamfered journals, and balanced. We have been waiting for a diamond hone to freshen the nickasil bores, and a pin bore hone to give proper wrist pin clearances.

Some might ask the question, what is the intent of this bike?
Adjustable clip ons? Turbo? Ohlins? 8" arm? mis matched bodywork and wheels?

...............

Frankenstein began as a custom street ride that I wanted to be distinctly different, and FAST.
The idea was to Turbo, lighten the bike, and make it personal.
I love the power of the big bore bikes. Asthetically I really like the frt and side of the zx14, but never liked the back end much. I have always liked the YZFR6 body style, especially the slim rear section. I have also always like the light looking simple 3 spoke wheels on the GSXR's.
The R6 subframe is made of magnesium, and I had weighed the gsxr wheels fully assembled with axles rotors, hubs, and sproket at approx 10 lbs lighter.
That measurement doesnot qiute coincide with Shanes however. I believe his scale may be more accurate.
The R6 seat and subfframe measures in at approximately 22 lbs less than that of the zx14 as well. .......... and looks hot IMO...
The GSXR frt suspension weighs in at 6lbs less than the zx14, and also has ohlins cartridges available, which I have installed with heavier springs required for the zx14 mass.
The tripple clamps also have less trail, and offset, which should make for more aggressive cornering habits, which will help with the extended swingarm. The clamps have moved the frt wheel back, and will allow me to run a longer swingarm for my class in CMDRA drag racing. Effectively weight transfered to the front, and more wheelsbase to the rear.

So what is the purpose and direction?
forward to 2009 and I live 10 minutes from a drag race facility, and my focus has changed.
I now want to ride it on the street, and drag race competitively.

I guess versatile , different, quick, fast, and comfortable would all fit in there somehow...

about the only thing I don't want it to do, is haul passengers. I have a vmax for that.

So here are a few pics of what has been going on the bike when I have time.

and the busa I am also building...

can't do it all by myself, why would you?
James is the wrench for the quickest streetbike in Canada 4yrs running

I am back to work for a week and won't have any time for the bike.
Will post up progress in a couple weeks...
Next up... engine building!

D@mn Dubs...that bike is going to look amazing when your finished. I think you've got the best of everything. With all the gold and carbon fiber I think a set of BST's are in order to replace those gsxr wheels.

I can't believe you were able to find all your parts after the move. That is a chore in itself. The bike looks well done, I really like the rear master cylinder.

OH NO.
Wait till you see the Turbo busa I am building.
He loves chrome and polished aluminum... that thing will hurt your eyes!
My buddy Gerry is the "king of Bling", and I gave him the monaker 2 years ago already.
Sorry Bob, that "go daddy" is gone already

Besides, titanium, billet aluminum, vortex, gilles, ohlins, galfer really are more performance oriented than anything...
First and foremost was power, lightweight and comfort.
I like the raw mechanical aspects of machinery.
I will not be looking to make it smooth or refined.
The carbon fiber has all been sold too BTW.
I decided to buy 1 piece Catalyst side panels, custom made with a few changes

I forgot to drop in some pics of the turbo...

Ifly,
Was there clearance to spin the oil filter on and off with the adams pan, ATP turbo, and wastgate pipe down there?
I am wondering if I need to buy an adapter like this one, if it would work?

I can't view these pics from work today, darn it!

It will interesting to see how much the finished product weighs. The tough part with these projects is it seems that every time you shave some weight, you then have to add a beefier part or more electronics.

thanks guys,
Humbling?
Come on Steve, I hope you know I am not like that.
I am not boast posting.
Some had an idea what I am doing with the bike, and have been curious to see whats going on.

BTW I am a blue collar worker, no different than any of the rest of you.
I gave up all my bad habits quite some time ago, don't travel much except for work, and enjoy working on it almost as much as riding.

Haha.
Nope.
I built my own Custom 70 RWHP CR500 aluminum frame a few years ago, the bike was completely rebuilt, down to the last detail from the tires right to the handlebar grips, everything was torn down and replaced or rebuilt.
I sold the bike for 2/3 the money I spent, and no $ for my blood, sweat, tears or love.
Big mistake, and will not do that again.
I will have this one till the day they bury me.

Quality was excellent, the real deal, and had proper holes and locator tabs cut for excellent fit.
I can't recall who.
I will dig around and look for ya.
