46 mm throttle bodies zx14
I was messing around on my flow bench with a zx14 head and noticed the throttlebodies looked to small for the port.I machined the throttlebody out to 46 mm from 44mm and the head really liked it.the fit to the rubber manifold was perfect with no cutting. picked up about 6 cfm. when the upper butterfly was removed nothing changed on the bench but when the upper shaft was removed it picked up. trying to get it on a dyno to have real numbers. looks promising.

Harry,
Did you get your parts?
I shipped them express, so they should be there Monday or Tuesday if they didn't get there yet,
I also threw the carbon fiber battery cover in the box for ya... would look dumb with the rest of my painted catalysts, but will look hot with the CF grills.
Thanks,
Lyle

Would there be a useful gain in removing the shaft and leaving them at 44mm ?

from the numbers on the flow bench it is going to help pulling the upper shaft but its a lot of work.the motor on the upper shaft and the tps have to see each other. you cant onplug it.I tried maching the shaft down to .080" and it helped but taking it out and and mounting the tps to the motor would be the best.

Sure, it would have to be something like that or the ecu would see a malfunction.
I reckon it would give about 15% more air flow without the shaft.

Northernkaw what about removing the secondary stepper motor and the sensor and mounting them remotely with a small shaft. You would have to plug the holes as your only problem.

I have been leaning it that direction but its a lot of work and you loose your fast idle on cold start up. you have to plug the holes machine a bushing to support the shaft and then make a plate to mount the tps that is adjustable to the motor. my next step is to machine the shaft in a diamond shape and try that.

If you want to leave it all in place and machine a shaft how about a flat shape with taper on both ends. The idea being when max power is desired full throttle high rpm the secondaries would be open anyways. That the shape would be the most aerodynamic.

I will try a couple different shapes. the only thing you have to keep in mind is the shaft has holes in it and you dont wont to weaken it to the point of breaking.

got some numbers.TODD said he picked up 4 hp on his bike but wanted to change the fuel and do some more testing. he figured the fuel was not the best. we went to toronto and put a set on mitches bike at frankenstein performance cycle. pc, m14muzzy no filter pump gas we made 186.1 /109.8 std. we picked up 4hp and 1.5 torque.we tested some pipes and at the end the motor was getting hot. I do think a little more tuning would get about 6hp out of it but we havent got there yet. as the motor gets bigger in cc. or better head I am sure the 46tbs or 47tbs will make even more of a difference. we will be doing some more tests.

Hey northernkaw'' Do you have any plans to sell any of these? I am using comptons new rail on a prostreet build and engine dyno is telling me compared to flow bench testing the head could use more volume. The 14 head seems to promote air fuel charge towards the top of the intake/valve,and i have had cam profiles designed accordingly, and i think the head would benefit from the bigger tb's . LMK where you are with the program please'' as i would like to run a set . Thanks....................Bill

Thanks Lyle'' I think i need to get in touch with Harry as we are at the limit on some of the bigger motors and our turbo bikes. Bob has the big valve 14 head working like all his work,so i am anxious to get the flow to the head. The stockers are diffidently in the way now. I haven't heard anything on the crank just yet my friend but will be in touch..........................Bill

got the throttle bodies out to 47mm. 48 mm gets a little thin around the base. got a couple of sets going on big motors. I think they will work real good in that application when the motor needs more air. anybody interested email me and I will send pictures.

Harry, we should have the new injectors in these 47mm throttle bodies this week. Then we will dyno tune the bike. Hopefully we can get over to Atco this weekend for some track testing. In a few weeks we will be testing the 50mm throttle bodies on the same engine and dyno. Then track testing will follow. We have to work around the different dragrace schedules so it may take a month or so to track test the 50mm units.
