Powder Coating wheels, ??Reuse seals??
I just dropped off my wheels to have them powder coated in silver with "crystal clear" top coat.. After my 3rd used rear "mint condition" flee-bay replacement wheel showed up today looking like crap.(My origanal rear wheel was bent by the dealer while changing tire and Im not paying $600+ for a new one.) Instead of sending another wheel back I thought i'd try having them powder coated. So I removed the bearings and ect from the used rear and my front wheel and dropped them off at the local powder coater. The sample piece they made for me looked fantastic! Hope they turn out well. Will post pics on or before friday.... 120.00 for both. My bike is the 08 midnight blue by the way. And I think the sample they showed me looked way better than the factory silver wheel finish... Hope im right.. ??The seals came out fine and look nice and new, Will they work fine if I reuse them??

I am doing the same thing as we speak, and yes as long as you dont fudge them up, you can reuse, my bike has almost 10k on it, so i am buying a bearing kit for $40 bucks, comes with seals. So did your PC guys prep the wheels or did you? I am preping my own, not to mention polishing the lip.

just a note guys my powder coater mentioned he heats the wheels before spraying it expands the pores in the metal allowing the powder to enter and one more thing make sure they do where the bead seals to the inside of the wheel approx one inch or you could end up with a leak if that area only has overspray on it.

All I did as far as prep was to remove everything from the wheel, and cleaned them. The shop is going to do the rest, they are gonna do some fancy tape work around all the machined areas for me. I'm not polishing the lip this time, might next time around. I'd like to see some pics of yours when done..

I coated mine too. The insides and brake surfaces were not coated and the coating goes all the way to the center of the inner area.....wheels were suspended by a norrow band - so the bead is coated. It took over 70psi to POP the tire onto the bead due to the added thickness.

I replaced everything..........only the wheels and rotors were reused.

Now im scared, mine will be only 120.00. I hope they dont cut any corners..lol But then again the shop I took them to is very repeatable. They do a lot of work in the Dow plants here south of Houston And I do mean a lot. And I have had a ATV frame and aluminum wheels done a few years back and they did a flawless job on them. I cant wail till I get them back on friday, its like waiting for christmas morning.

Yes it is but not much, $11 per pound for reg or $20 for candy. The local shop told me $120 for any color they had in stock including metalic and candy and or crystal clear coat. But my bike is the 08 midnight blue and the only color I thought would look good was a silver again. I'm gonna bet that his wheels got $300 worth of time and labor they look great. So lets hope mine do to! But with such a low cost im very skeptical, ill know tomorrow....

there is around 20 hours of labor alone into them. i can't post pictures till the bike is done, not trying to give away any ideas on what i'm doing
but, for what its worth.. he normall charged 75 a wheel to strip/blast/coat a wheel. if you bring them to him without bearings and no tires.
