I have installed quite a few sets, and you can spray more then the stk pistons because they are forged, however they still have a shallow distance from ex valve pocket and top ring. If you want to hit her hard with nos,use the nos piston je offers, they cost more but well worth the money. Also check out some of the other piston manf, I prefer a certain one but wont name hear to be fair to all............Bill

I've got them in mine, normally aspirated with Carpenter cams, no NOS. I like them just fine.
They did come in a little low on compression ratio 13.3:1 vs. the advertised 13.5:1
I also sent them off to have the domes ceramic coated, just in case

Could it handle an 80 shot with these pistons, springs, nos controller, & good tune.

Not sure on the pistons, I went with 2mm increase compression height for my turbo, I would think you might want more material above the top ring.
The fuel system will have to be upgraded.. increase your fuel pressure, maybe upgrade the pump too, for a dry shot that big.
...or run a wet shot

The rule i use is this > don't exceed 25% of the motor output ... So if the zx14 puts out 200 hp at the crank you would go no more than a 50 shot ..50 is what would be called safe and anything passed that number would be threading on thin ice.. Now add rods pistons and valve springs you would be able to push that number to an 80 shot ( wet ) if correctly tuned ..
These motors are tuff and proven to take a beating but stock parts do have their limit..

I agree with Lee, but have been told many times the stock rods are good for 300HP...
I know of ZX14 engines, all stock but valvesprings that have survived 270 RWHP for a very long time and still running in Turbo application.
These engines indeed are tough, and the tolernces of mine upon inspection were awesome. A crank with 10,000 miles and 50 lbs of nitrous through it with .0001 deflection.
Cylinder walls that were all identical and square, (if a bit oversized)
My car engine builder (machinist) polished the crank , checked deflection, and upon internal balancing found it was already perfect!
He was totally amazed with the quality of the zx14 parts.
He has been building stroked and big bore race engines for cars for 30 years.

with stock bore 13.5:1 JE pistons, carrillo rods, head studs, and valve springs I've sprayed a 120 shot so far. probably try about 150 or so next year. I've had no problems so far.

not a 14, but close on my 1287 i sprayed a 90 shot on 91 octane pump with no problems untill i hit the rev limiter and spit a shim(got a few 161mph time slips to proove it). I thought it was 12.5:1 cr but it was actually 13.5:1 like the drop ins you are asking about. tuned rich, 11.5:1 afr and 7.5 degrees of timing pulled(very conservative setup)
prep your pistons for nitrous to avoid a lot of problems. sharp edges and thin areas cause hot spots= detonation

Is that a thermal coating or just a polished used piston?

the pics are a new piston i preped for use in dads bike(with 3 used ones, thread going in dragbike zone) i used the same type and did the same prep to mine last yr, but dads pics were just easier to find. no coating, just used a file, and 400 grit sand paper by hand
