Power Commander 5

I talked to Jamie at Fuel Moto and he says they (Fuel Moto) are going to support retrofit applications for the new PC 5 for the ZX-14 (06 -08). The PC 5 for the Concours will plug up to the earlier ZX-14 according to Jamie and they will be providing maps and tech support for the earlier bikes. This is not a application that DynoJet is going to list or support according to Jamie. He said he expects to start recieving PC 5 units for these applications mid Febraury. If interested give him a call at Fuel Moto for details.

Dynojet is on the cusp of releasing a new Power Commander , called the Power Commander 5 (PCM-5) (don't know why it isn't a 4) . Target date is November . The Power Commander 5 will offer the PCM-3 features plus ,

- kill time per gear for the quick shifter

- fuel map per gear

- all the multi-hub functions will be built into the PCM-5 . This means you'll be able to run multiple maps and switch them on the fly via a switch on the bars .

- further it will have tight integration with the WBC-2 (WideBandCommander2) thus offering automatic tuning of air / fuel mixtures based on the A/F data coming from the WBC-2

- when coupled with the LCD-200 , data from both the PCM5 and WBC-2 can be logged to an SD memory card up to 1GB in size .

* The PCM-5 will not support traction control , as Dynojet believes the only correct way to do that is with additional sensors . The intent is for the PCM-5 and all the accessories to be targeted for '09 bikes . But there will be some level of backward compatibility .

and about the prices ,
PowerCommander 5 : 355USD
LCD200 : 499USD

Frankly I don't care one way or the other about the auto tune feature or the data logging capability on either the DJ or the Bazzaz unit. I do like some of the other features incorperated into the PC 5 though. It is nice to know at least one aftermarket supplier will be supporting using these units on earlier ZX-14's. My guess is that Brock will also support this application if he finds out it works as Jamie says it will. For data logging it makes more sense to me to get a Innovate data logger which is capable of far more than either the DJ or the Bazzaz for this function. The only advantage I can see with the Bazzaz or DJ 5 and LCD 200 is it is a plug and play system. Any other aftermarket system for data logging and or auto tuning requires tapping into the wiring harnesses to get good clean signals as well as some sophisticated set up programming for your application. If you don't think this can be a huge PITA go to the Innovate web site and look at all the people that have problems with this. I am not familiar with the motec or autronic systems but I would bet they also require a pretty sophisticated owner or tuner to install and tune them to best advantage.

as big of a pain in the ass as it may be... Watching my friend on his 08 busa run 6.30's for 3 runs on learn mode, come back hook his bazzaz up to his laptop and hit correct and run a 6.05 is FUCKING HUGE!!! I just can't afford $750 for one or I would be going with it instead of the pc3.

That does sound very convenient. In fact, at the cost of track time, it could be money well spent. If it works that well....

If you run at a track that doesn't change that much then it might not be worth the money. Ours might have a 3000ft da at the start of the day and be 5000 ft at the end. He also put his bike on the dyno and put down 180hp for three runs, hit correct and put down either 182 or 184. I'm definitely a firm believer. I still haven't seen one on a 14 though. I think that the busa has dual injectors though, so that could have something to do with why it works so well.

Wideband commander, lcd make a pass press replay look at the whole run adjust map on the way back the return road. Not nearly the headache the Bazz, box can be and you dont need a laptop. I install alot of both but my bikes have the lcd with wb. Very user freindly Just my .2 cents.........Bill

I think that if you're an able bodied tuner then the WB would definitely be your best bet. HOWEVER... average joe isn't going to know what to changes to make, and is likely to do more harm than good lol. Kinda like the MAC vs. PC thing. If you know what you're doing then a PC is WAAAAY more capable and will do anything and everything you could ever ask of it. If you're not then a MAC will do it for you lol.

Thanks for the Input Bill... Having the opinion of someone who works with both a lot is always great.
