If the citizens of that town see it as a major problem then that is their perogative to ban it. It sucks for the cyclists that look forward to it but it does get wild at times.

It was on my list of things
I want to do. I had planned on this year or next and didn't really think they would ban it after all these years. I better hurry to Daytona before its too late. Anybody have ideas for the next venue?

Fuck lol... I get pissed off when the carriers pull in and it takes me 30 min to get to work splitting lanes. If I had to deal with that many strangers congesting things and just making everything more complicated I wouldn't really want them in my town either. It would be one thing if it was out in the country somewhere... but it's right in the middle of everything.

It sucks for the bikers... but I can see where everyone that wants it to stop is coming from. Heaven forbid groups of retards not be able to all meet in one place and act like idiots in front of each other. I have never been there but judging by what I've seen on superbikes and other shows of the likes that's a lot of what happens.

This unfortunantly is the result of the FEW ruining it for the REST of us. Stupid a$$ idiots that cannot enjoy themselves without breaking the law. And I dont mean speeding, burnouts, etc...I mean stealing, walking out of resturants without paying, littering, and so on. When you get all the business owners together and pull the strings, thats whats going to happen. Think about it, how many residents live in the city limits. This used to be a great rally with some good times but as the years went by, so did the good times??

That's messed-up. I'll still be going though - already made the plans (I'll see you there tedubya). Last time I went was 2006 and I had a blast. Sounds like this year may be a tad more docile than years past.

What I can't understand about this lame letter from the Mayor of M.B. is that other cities have adjusted to big events just fine. Daytona Beach has been the location for both Daytona Beach Bike Week and College Spring Break for years and they've adjusted as these events have grown. New Orleans has been the home of Mardi Gras for decades and they've embraced it - welcoming people to come party in their town year after year. Why should Myrtle Beach be any different? It's because people still associate motorcycles and motorcyclists with trouble. Anything on two wheels must be connected to either the Hell's Angels or some form of a rebellious, immoral lifestyle.

It's a big joke! And I can't be made to believe that two back-to-back events packing in 300,000 people each isn't a big money maker for M.B. and N.M.B. business owners. When we hit the M.B. area we have to stay somewhere, eat somewhere and drink somewhere. Many of us purchase supplies and even souvenirs during our visit so money is being made - and lots of it. Trying to shut MB Bike Week and MB Black Bike Weekend down is a big crock!

Ture about canned - but the legislatures are writing laws so tough in FL analysts predict when word gets out Daytona will be less and less attractive regarding events and it will dwindle to nothingness.

I worry about Daytona too because my thinking is if Myrtle goes out of business more people will show up for Daytona. How much of an overflow can Daytona handle before they attempt to pull the plug? That will impact Daytona Bike Week and Biketoberfest. What's left, Sturgis?

Still gonna ride down and see whats happening in N. Myrtle for a couple of days, MAYBE!!
But Myrtle Beach City has lost my money totally! me and the wife have spent a lot of time and money there, but no more for me!!!
i do understand some of the new laws though, but if you didn't have kids under 18 out on the streets after 1 and checking in hotels without supervision, you would have far fewer people to manage!

That is a real shame, I notice that the explanation by the Mayor is very diplomatically worded.

In complete contrast to Myrtle Beach there is a town in Devonshire England, near to where I live, called Paignton. They have bike nights throughout the summer on Wednesday evenings. There is usually a turn out of a few hundred bikes at least. We all pay a nominal entrance fee to a big field next to the beach and the proceeds are given to local charities. Last year they raised over £30,000. Needless to say, the locals are extremely happy and everyone has a great time. The local Cops, who are also bikers come along too. I have never seen any trouble and the holiday makers in the area seem to enjoy the big display of bikes as well. The group who run this event also run a big bike show there, they are called BMAD (for Bikers Make A Difference).

I'm renting a beach house in NMB this time around and that's probably where I'll spend most of my time. I can't agree with you more about the minors. Come Friday night there are so many highschool kids it's ridiculous! You'd imagine the parents would get involved and try to restrain them from showing up but that certainly doesn't seem to be the case.

Might head down to Miami next year - but from what I've heard, it's not a whole lot better.

No Events Cancelled -- All Outside the City of Myrtle Beach
As many of you have heard or received information on the events being cancelled. Not exactly true – The events will take place in the County and surrounding Counties just not inside of the City of Myrtle Beach. The City of Myrtle Beach has begun a media campaign designed to deter the respectable, law abiding motorcycle enthusiast from coming to the area. There are businesses inside the City limits of Myrtle Beach that do support and welcome Motorcycle Enthusiast. The City of Myrtle Beach can’t stop you from visiting and supporting the businesses that support Bike Week. Looking forward to seeing everyone again in 2009.

Check out... http://www.myrtlebeachbikeweek.com/

I was planing on going down for my first visit - Trailer the bike out of the snow and do some riding.

If you go there won't be a bike week, maybe just a few others that insist on going.

Also, be SURE and put your stock exhaust back on before engaging the grandstrand/MB proper area!

I have been to the Myrtle Beach bike week 3 years in a row and can say that I had a decent time but really have no desire to go back. While down there we spoke to some of the locals and they all said that they hate the events that are held and the ones that can afford it leave town for bike week. The business owners make a killing but the people that live there are probabally very happy.

im going ive been every year since 2000, and to be honest i have never got hassled by any police or service people. The only run in i had was when i was filming while sitting out of the window of my boys car while we were rolling up kings hwy, and we were let go with a polite stay in the car. Last year i parked on the side of ocean blvd in front of my hotel just chillin, and a state patrol officer told me to keep it moving. If it suck oh well ill have enough belvi to keep the party going, or ill just ride up to north myrtle. I truley cant beleive because of a helmet law, and exhaust checks 300 thousand people will say to hell with it. Guys are still gonna be down there in the old schools with 30's, girls are still gonna come to ride for the first time, and we are gonna come to see booties on the back of bikes!!!!!!!!! Most clubs in my area Raleigh/Durham are still going down there in strong #'s. Ill be at 24 south the Bluewater Resort.
