hp to weight ratio
does anybody know a hp to weight ratio? best way to describe what im asking is........ say i weigh 190, and my bike puts out 200 hp......(just using a even number) lol....... and i gain 5 lbs, how much hp does that take away.... i mean i know its not actually losing hp but its having to work harder to pull me therefor i go slower..... so about how much u loose in hp per lb gained?

Motorcyclist magazine claims loss/gain of 7 pounds equals about one horsepower.

thanks thats just what i was looking for.... so theres no way to tell whats really overweight or when ur taking away from ur bike? like what lb rider it was built for? example.....i know a guy thats like 260 and was saying his 08 1k gixxer is faster than my 14 because its lighter and puts out the same hp. i told him he full of shit cuz if it did, ur losing anything u may have had over me cuz of his weight. he was saying that it tote him fine. im done arguing with him, just gonna spank that ass when weather lightens up. but it did get the brain thinking and i wanted some facts.

Weight has no effect on top speed. Top speed is only effected by drag. Weight effects acceleration.

We've always used 8 lbs as a hp and it's proven to be pretty good.

5000lb+ vehicles = 15lbs equals 1hp or 2ftlbs torque on a diesel
3000lb vehicles = 10lbs equals 1hp
?700lb bikes = 7lbs equals 1hp?
Seems to follow the general order of hp to weight. My brother is "into" drag racing diesels and the 15lbs to 1hp is there rule-- though that might be skewed by there overt reliance on torque versus horsepower. Of course, once you reach really serious professional level speeds weight doesnt seem to be as important as traction...
Something to consider: Once you get into the low 9's you run into steep end of the "Increased hp to decreased elapsed time" curve (for a bike, heavier vehicles notice this sooner). That is the point where ever increasing (almost squared) hp is required to get elapsed time gains.

Don't know if this is exactly true or not, but a very experienced drag racer that I ride with likes to say that each 30lbs is about a tenth in the 1/4 for the big bikes (12's, Busas, 14's etc...). I wonder if that is the same with the liter bikes?
