crankcase mod and top speed restrictor
hi all
just a couple of questions.
when the crankcase mod is done to connect the crankcase breather direct to the ex fresh air intake on the rocker covers, does it make any difference to remove the reed valves on the rocker cover
and what is still the best method to remove top speed limiter and still having the speedo reading accurate or is that a contradiction

You can either buy reed block off plates or you can run a piece of hose and connect the reed covers together. Try this link:
http://www.schnitzracingstore.com/catalogs/catalog.asp?prodid=4781572&showprevnext=1
I know that a TRE will elim. the top speed limiter but you will loose the gear indicator.
A SpeedoHealer will correct the speedo reading but I don't know if it will elim. the top speed limiter. Try this link:

Steve, Dubious or some of the other guys may be able to give more info than I can on this, but there is no way to "eliminate" the top speed limiter. All a TRE does is tells the ECU that the bike is in 6th gear which allows the flies to open at a lower RPM thus making more power. Kaw restricted the power in the lower gears to make it more "rideable" or "safer". The speed limiter is at approximately 186MPH based on the needle position on the speedometer. If you change gear ratios, like I have to a 16T front sprocket, the speedo reads high. My speed limiter still kicks in at 186MPH indicated on the speedometer, but I'm actually only traveling about 158MPH. A speedohealer can be set to correct for alternate gear ratios so that your speedometer reads true, OR it can be set to read low (ideally using the KPH scale or the inside circle of numbers on the speedo). It doesn't actually eliminate the speed limiter, it just prevents the ECU from registering actual speed.

on the crank case vent mod. you have to leave the reed valves under the plates or else you will have exhaust pressurize the crank case. the very opposite of what you want. you dont even have to take the plates off, put a T fitting where the smog pump was and run a hose to the crank case vent. plug the holes in the air box
theres a nut you can grind a corner off of to get around the speed limiter to a certain extent

thought that may be the case with the crankcase mod, i have read about running 2 speedo healers, one to correct the speedo reading , and a second fitted to fool the ecu
maybe should contact speedo healer on that one

Yes, I thought that too originally but it won't work with the Kawasaki ZX-14 because ecu to speedo is a canbus.

Speedo error stock is 7-8%
Set your speedo healer to subtract 7-8% will give correct speed.
To overcome the limiter, I set mine to -18%.
Spedometer error was now 10 % low, but it would hit the rev limiter in 6th!
Route the crankase breather as Scotty recommended. The exhaust will scavenge the positive crankase pressure.
Additionally...
If you run extended high rpm, cannon ball type riding run your oil at 3/4 the sight glass bike level, and keep an eye on it. The oil pump will push the oil faster than it returns and can run a bearing dry if you have low oil level and extended high rpm.
If you run it at the top of the sight glass it will pump the oil out of the crankase in short order until the level drops to 3/4.
Happy holidays everyone!

That is precisely what the Speedo Healer does. It intercepts the pulse train from the tacho on the gearbox sprocket and out-puts at a different, user selectable, rate. It was made to correct speedo errors caused by gearing changes etc. Subsequently used by the likes of us to fool the ecu speed limiter. I use the "Convert kph to mph" mode as it is then possible to read mph off the speedo's inner kph scale, giving a 300mph speedo and no limiter, well at least not until 299.33mph.

If any of you guys are thinking that with a basic setup (such as mine listed in my sig) you will be able to just gear it up and hit 200mph or more, you are seriously mistaken! BobC has who knows what else tech secrets done to his bike to make it run that fast.
From what I've read and seen posted (posted by guys who I tend to believe, that is), it seams that a basic modded zx14 will hit around the 190-192mph mark with stock gearing, and 190-195mph with a 1 tooth smaller front sprocket. Proper taping off of openings, removal of EVERYTHING that you can (mirrors, blinkers, rear footrests, and god knows what else), ceramic bearings, 520 chains, and numerous other untold little things can yeild a 200+mph run. On a good day. Thats also assuming you can do an near perfect impersonation of BobC's tuck, too. For me, that'd be like Miss Piggie trying to hide behind a runway model - good luck!

hi
sticks an stones, reckon your accessment would be pretty close, over here in N Ireland we just do not have any venues for top speed runs , which is a pity as would have loved to know what mine would be good for
my mods are full ti force system with an akrapovic carbon silencer grafted on , bmc filter, crankcase vent mod, power commander and ignition module.
last winter balanced crank and rods and 1.5 kgs of crank , 13.5-1 j&e pistons, ported head and carpenter cams, and made 207 hp on a stingy dyno .
this winter have found enought clearence to bring the ex cam timing from 109 to 105 lca and hoping to pick up another couple of horses in the mid and top end

Damn sounds like a nice stout setup davisag. Grab a GPS unit and find yourself about 1 1/2 - 2 miles of straight clear visibility road and let it rip! Only takes a matter of seconds to go from 60mph to 188mph!
