Tire Question

I have about 3200 miles on my stock Bridgestones and the front is mint and the rear is toasted. I am considering throwing a Bridgestone BT021 on the rear which is whats stock on a Concours 14. Anyone have any experience with this tire on the 14? Thanks

a concours tire would be biased More to mileage

whereas the stock tyare biased toward exuberant traction

that you might not be incline to do track days...... canyons or drag

a mileage tyre might suit you better

of course you have to be honest with yourself

putting on a mileage tyre & then running wild will put you down

there are a lot of good tyres out these days.........................some dual compounds

that moderate riders are finding to their liking

i ALWAYS switch tyres as a pair tho

it can make a bit of difference in handling

good luck

I just put a new set of BT016 on my 14. They replaced a set of 021s. I had put the 021s on to get a little more mileage. I only got about 2000 miles out of my 021s, so I said fuck it and decided to try the 016s. I only ride in the canyons and my pace can be catergorized as brisk. I've had no problems with the 021s in corners. No pussy strips on my tires. I did have the ass end sliding a little braking before diving into a turn, though. The middle part of the tire is harder, so that's to be expected.

you can use harder tires if your not going to push it as hard. if you are asking about better mileage you probably would be fine. i like my back and front tires to be matched though.

I'm getting about 3500 miles out of my tomahawk t-3 rears with mixed riding (commuting in the week and canyons/ dragracing on the weekend.) I don't ride them super hard in the canyons, but I use all of the tire and at stock wheelbase, I can launch pretty much as hard as I want at the dragstrip and not worry about it. Can't beat that for $172 a set shipped or 93 for a rear. I'll let you know how the fronts are after next week when I put front and rear on. I've been running a shinko 006 front for the past 2 rears.

if you don't care about having sticky tires and better performance, go with the ones that last longer.

Yea I dont push it that hard when I ride and try my best to keep it safe. I think I might try the BT021 rear as I was really happy with the stock BT014's performance but 3K miles just does not cut it. Thanks for the advice

It sure looks like you use the tire enough to want good traction. I say prepare for the most adhesion possible. you can always take it easy on sticky tires. My attitude is if it wears out, that's good, you must have needed it. I'm one that could care less about mileage. I had my qualifier let go on a corner and i dumped it. I don't want that to happen again so the next set will be all about traction.

"traction"tires are great if you need them. High end "track" tires need to be brought up to temp to grip right so avoid those unless you live in HOT states AND ride really really hard.
I've used both Mileage and gripper tires for street. I'm currently shod with Dunlops StreetSmart mileage tires and was pleased with them before the snow came. I change tires for track days but find it rare that I outride the mileage tires on street. They warm up quicker, wear longer and rarely break loose unless really pushed in the canyons. I'm a fast rider but easy on tires due to alot of track time smoothing out my cornering. With tire technology most sport touring tires will get you through street riding unless you have no clue to proper riding technique or ham fisted.

I was really happy with my stock BT014's but my rear is shot at 3K. They gripped great and warmed up fast. Gonna see if the BT016's last any longer...Anyone have any experience with the BT016's??

I ran a pirelli dragon slick for about 3 weeks. Was great on the dragstrip, but on the street it was impossible to heat it up enough to get traction (before I put the 16t front sprocket on). After i put the 16t on, I could blow the tire off at 90MPH lol.
