front sprocket removal

Does the clutch slave have to be removed to take off the front sprocket cover?Or does it come off together in one piece?

Hey Lee... can I put a 16t front sprocket on my bike and leave the 41 rear on without shortening the stock chain?

That's why I went with the 16t instead of the 43 or 44 rear; I wouldn't have to mess with a new chain. Considering the torque differences that I have since learned about, I kinda wish I would have gone with the rear. Just my quick 2 cents.

Yes put a 16 on .No chain to cut ...It will move the axle about an 1/2 inch back and will help with your 60 times .. You will love it trust me ..

Hmmm,I guess the cover must be stuck on then,I removed the 4 long bolts from the cover and it does not budge, not sure if i should pry on it?I was thinking earlier on that maybe the bolts that hold the slave on maybe went through the main cover as well.Well maybe its time to get more aggressive.

OK I actualy did this on Friday last week.... the ONLY bolt that goes through the clutch slave is the top one, the other 2 do NOT go all the way through. I loosened them all and pulled the cover off slow and noticed the other 2 dont go through and tightened them back up so I wouldnt leak any fluid, which saved me from bleading the clutch. Thats the way it is on my 07 anyway. only thing about it is its kinda in the way when trying to break loose the front sprocket bolt.... which is a bitch... make sure you eat your wheaties before you try breakeing it loose. and you might want another set of hands around when you do, unless you have a stout impact, which we didnt lol. One thing I noticed AFTER I got the sprocket bolt of is the washer that sets behind it is bent to lock in the bolt.
ok this might sound stupid but just for imformation. When you put it all back together make SURE you put the rear brake caliper back in its grove on the swing arm that keeps it in place... I wouldnt be mentioning that if I had done so. I didnt and now Im ordering a new brake line. Just glad I was going 5mph instead of 135 down the highway...

Thanks xstatik,The top slave bolt did go through the sprocket cover, got it off and mounted the 16 tooth on there.A little tough to do by oneself but far easier to put back on.Once again thanks for the advice.
