ONTARIO - Riders
Ontario Bike Riders...
I wanted to draw your attention to this important petition:
As of Dec 5 the following bill will get second reading in the house and the following will become law:
1. The Highway Traffic Act is amended by adding the following section:
Prohibition of passengers under 14 years old on motorcycles
No person shall drive or operate a motorcycle if another person under the age of 14 years is a passenger on the motorcycle.

is there a problem with pedophiles up there? seems like a strange law to enact.

It’s a very strange and ill conceived law, even more off the wall than our new get tagged at 50Km over (31mi) , and you loos your ride law (that’s right they not only take your licence they impound your ride, until the fines etc are paid). Allmost makes you think they don’t like bikes up here!
As for safety I have spent thousands of dollars on safety equipment (Corbin seat with passenger back rest, Helmets, Jackets, Pants etc..), to insure my kids are safe when riding on my bike. And when I have a passenger I ride appropriately, never fast or in an area with a lot of other vehicles. But to outright ban my Sunday drives would have a very detrimental effect on my time with my kids. I hope at 14 they would still want to go for rides with dad, but priority’s change and time is fleeting, and my children’s safety while with me is something that I will take care of…
Not only that statistically a back yards pool is way more dangerous for a child than a motorcycle but do you see them looking at banning pool ownership to family’s with kids under 14.
Once again this is someone that has probably never even ridden on a bike trying to make political points, “protecting the children”, when in reality they are taking something away.
For me some of my fondest childhood memories are riding on the back of or in the sidecar of one of my dad’s old bikes… And now that two of my Children are sufficiently mature and capable in my opinion to ride on the back I delight in taking them for Sunday rides in the Country. Not only do I enjoy it but the kids really look forward to "going for a ride" and my younger children can't wait for the day they will be allowed on board either for a short drive down the street or off on an adventure.
To think that the state is going to take this away sickens me… P.S. Sorry for the rant!

Did you happen to read that little article that i posted up on here a few days ago "A breed apart"?
People who didn't grow up around motorcyles just really don't get it and probably never will. Good luck with that. I hope for your childrens sake that they get to continue to ride.

I did read your article and agree completely, “I always look back”.
Every winter I can’t wait for the snow to melt and for the day I can drive my bike out of the house (I don’t want it to get cold in the garage, (or me) when I feel the need to sit on it put something new on it or just wax it).
My wife has for years been pised when every fall (sometime after the first snow), I park my bike in my main floor office.. This year now that she has her own bike “08 Black and Red 650R”, I told her I could make room for her bike as well.

lol, i can remember my dad rebuilding engines in our livingroom floor on a broken down cardboard box during the winter.
