You want the power, go with the oil weight recommended by Brocks: less than zero weight for the track, 0-20 for the street. I use the Mobil 1 synthetic 0w-20 and the Fram filter from Schucks/Kragen. Quart is $4.50 ea. filter $5. It gave me the edge over 2 other identical equiped bikes at the last dyno shootout I went to. Beat Ninja of Doom's 14 with identical setup by 6rwhp! He runs 10w-40 synthetic I believe he said.

Running it myself right now. You actually have it backward Some Guy: in the cold, you want lower viscosity (thinner oil) so that it flows better and low temps. In the summer, you want a thicker oil to keep it from getting too thin when hot.
Nowadays its not really a factor, though. The oil made is light years ahead of even the very best oils made in the 80's and earlier when all those arcane rituals came about, and you can reliably run 10w-30 in just about anything. Europe is bringing the 0w-10 and 0w-20 synthetic oil to the forefront nowadays. And all those "high efficiency" gas powered cars are using 0w-20 as the mfg recommended oil because of its proven ability to free up power which makes there engines more efficient.

Rotella is so popular because it has the highest ZINC content. Infact, lots of oils have no ZINC anymore (or very little) due to emissions.
Rotella is very popular among vintage car guys. The ZINC helps prevent wear on flat tappet cams, etc...
ZINC is in there for it's wear protection properties.

isnt there two kinds of the rotella t, there is some new one out to.. which do you guys use?

Thanks Sticks. It just makes me wonder why the dealer is always putting in 10w-40. I just had the oil changed at 500 miles since the rebuild. I'll do it again at 1000 miles and this time I'll bring them the oil to put in. After that, I'll start doing it myself, this one is for the books.

I like to do the maintenance myself. It is really easy, and kinda fun to do with friends.

I bet its simply because they only want to carry one weight oil, which means one 55 gallon drum to locate in there always cramped shops. 10w-40 is a generic oil that will work in anything, new or old.

+1 I consider that one of my *fun* things to do. Especially when its raining and I'm in my nice warm garage dreamin of sunny days.

i use to rotella 15-40, adams performance recommended it me,told it me did not have the additives that some other oils have and actually it promotes clutch life. all i can say is i have been using it for a year and i have had no issues at all.
