Nicer than my ultra low budget alternatives:
A) Find a nut and bolt combo (preferably from a coffee can or Mason jar) and weld the nut to the bolt with the sh*ttiest welds you can manage.
-or-
B) Dig out a sparkplug wrench (preferably split, flared, and stripped from breaking lugnuts loose w/ an impact) and stick an extension in it backwards.

Sounds like you have some good tools to be worrying about a $30 socket. I got a universal socket with many sizes to fit many different bikes for less than $30. I can put it in a front axel of any motorcycle and it'll work. It makes me happy.

There is a tool included in the 09's toolpack that does this. I'm gonna go look in my 08 toolpack since I kept it from the slavage yard, lol.

Craftsmen 1/2" drive 13/16" deep sparkplug socket and 6" long 1/2" drive extension installed backwards. It is a perfect fit into the axle nut. Total cost of both items from Sears about $11. Took about 10 minutes to run over there and pick em up with zero aggravation. Loosen the axle pinch bolts only on the throttle side. Clutch side pinch bolts stay tight and keep the axle from turning. One more thing, make sure you have a good front stand with no flex. I saw one guy use a cheap set of stands and they allowed the forks to move together a little after the front wheel was removed. It is a bitch getting the front wheel back in when that happens. You will have to drop both brake calipers and either remove the front fender completely or take the bolts out on one side in order to get the tire out. If you have the ZX-10 fender the tire will clear without removing the fender. Torque is 94 lb-ft on the axle nut and if I remember corrrectly the pinch bolts are 12lb-ft. Have fun!

I changed my tires a week before a trackday and was shocked when my kit (2008) didn't include a tool for the front. There is no excuses for Kawasucky not to include something that basic in the stock tool kit !!! I'm lucky and have a well stocked tool supply and used the same trick as S A Kruz
