start-up chatter

Everyone knows the immediate start-up chatter the 14 has. Best of my knowledge, it's coming from the hydraulic cam chain tensioner. It has to build up pressure before the slack is taken out. Sometimes on my 07 14 with 8000 miles on it, the chatter will go on for several seconds instead of the usual second or two it always takes. I was just wondering if my tensioner is going bad? If so, would the APE mechanical one be best to replace it with?

There was talk about using the zx-12 tensioner/ or using the Concours tensioner (different?) on the 14's a while back. Anyone still doing it? My '08 is now starting to make noise after being quiet for the first 4,000 miles.

Some people( Carpenter Racing) are using the ZX-12 tensioner. All there doing is milling .120 off the face(the part the bolts to the head) .
