HEATED HAND GRIPS OR HEATED GLOVES???
I am taking a two-day trip one way (rain or shine) to and from from Northern Jersey to Mobile, Alabama in mid-November and I am in the market for some cold weather gear. I have pretty much made up my mind that I will be ordering a heated vest. From the way I understand it, if you keep at least your core warm you shouldn't suffer as bad from the cold weather. I wanted to ensure that my hands don't freeze up as well so I decided to go with some type of heating for them as well. I also may be looking into some heated socks but I don't want the to have to use heated pants in order to make them work. Does anyone have any experience with using heated gear on a 14? Am I asking for trouble by trying to make my sport-tourer a Concours? LOL.

I'm going with heated gloves
I figures the heat would be closer to my hands compared with working through the gloves to get to my hands.
I'm going with Warm N Safe G3 Liner & Gerbings G3 gloves.
My legs and feet usually doesn't suffer as much as my upper body, so I use my insulated jeans, overpants, 2 pairs of socks and Columbia Snow Boots.
From what I've read as long as your moving there is more than enough power, but sitting at idle for too long will drain the system.

I read a bit about the Gerbings gloves. They seemed to be the ones. I was hoping someone could get on here and co-sign them. I'm wearing my one-piece Kaw suit with my under armor shirt and pants and maybe long johns over them. My new 2-shroud balaclava from Alpinestars is proven to be a definite for the ride. I'm gonna stay with my Puma race boots for now.

I'm actually canceling my trip to Biketoberfest so I can ride with Butta in November.
Cali has nice weather also, but when I rode out there no one I met had more miles than me.

I have the Gerbing heated gloves and Heated Jacket liner. The new G3 gloves are terrific and heat the entire hand. I have ridden in temps as low as 20 degrees with now problem. They even have a rheostat temp control thats portable or mountable and allows very fine temp control. I toast them to start out then turn the temp way down to stay comfy.

We sell all the Gerbing gear, everyone seems to really like it. I would not recommend the heated grips except for an ATV or Snowmobile, where you have a thumb throttle. The wires from the grips have to turn with the throttle on a bike.........and I don't like that setup at all. Worked on an Aprilia Futura today with heated grips and we ( technicians ) didn't like the wires moving around the switch housing every time you twist the throttle. Just another opionion to consider............

I like the sound of this. You don't happen to have any pics of your install do you? I'm sure I will figure it out but trying to avoid trial and error if I can.

Been using the heated gerbins jacket liner and there gloves for 7 yrs and would not be with out it. imo heated grips are a joke had them on my fjr and they did not work worth a shit. The G3 gerbins gloves keep your whole hand warm. fingers and all. I've used them down to about 20 degrees for 4 hr ride and hands never get cold.

I'm sold on the Gerbins for certain. Anyone recommend a site to get them from?

I also use the Gerbing gloves. (Older models) Seems to be the only way to go in the real cold. The wind blast pushes heat into your hands from the gloves. Dont think grips will do that. To give you a idea how good they work I recommend getting the adjustable thermostat for them. I dont have them and when the outside temps. are in the 30's I have to UNPLUG them in town traffic as it gets TOO warm without the windchill of higher speeds!

butta4hc, we sell Gerbing but are not a site sponser. I have been a member here since the beginning and won't break or bend the rules. However..........I can reccomend that you find a dealer that carries the product in stock like we do and go try the gear on in person. Your guessing at best ordering online and it may take several attemts to get the size's right. If you don't want to shop where you try on for size's, then pm or e-mail me and I will help get the gear you want.

I'd go with the heated gloves too. If it gets really cold you can wear thin waterproof overmits on top of them which cuts down the exposed surface area and minimises heat loss. I once rode 235 miles overnight at around minus 6 degrees centigrade with this set-up and it worked just fine.

123,000 miles plus, 49 states, 6 Canadian prov's. in the last 5 years in temps from the high one hundred teens down to single digits on my BMW 1100RS
The heated grips work great but the heated gloves will be a much easier solution. No installation required... on the bike that is.
Having both is the shitz

Noted. This is what I'm talking about. I am strongly looking into the entire set up from them. I think with today's economy I will beriding more often.
