GPS with Max Speed Function/Recall
Could some one chime in with GPS suggestions for confirming MAX Speed.
I have a GPS Data Logger that records every 100 meters,
but after a top end run that only showed 178 in 6th gear @ 11300 RPMs indicated
Speedohealer set @ -54.3% (to give me an estimated 50% of actual speed)
Brocks' Maxton Map and Gen 3 system, Stock Air Filter and gearing,
I doubt I was going that slow
Another confirmation method is desired.

Easier said than done,
I do more commuting and touring than any thing else,
just would like to know how fast it goes as is.

If you have a newer model GPS, it should be using WAAS, which is the latest technology that made already accurate GPS more accurate.
Garmin brags about accuracy within 3 meters as a result of this new technology in their units.
I'd be hard pressed to believe the speedo healer has an error rate less than or equal to the GPS unit.

I use a garmin Nuvi 660 , and it always has the same max speed as the timing system at maxton ,,,, last week i had 4 runs in the car at 190 mph and the time slips were always the same.

Thanks for the info,
it seems like Garmin is the way to go,
their units have trip computers with the feature I'm looking for.
My logger is pictured below, it has no display I download from it when I get home after trips.

It is my 1967 camaro with a 427 small block and SB2 heads. The motor makes 800 hp at 7200 rpm. I run 2.80 gears with a turbo 400 tranny and the car weighs 3350 lbs with me in it. This car currently has 7 land speed records and a couple of IHRA superstock records.
I am gonna shoot nitrous on the next meet and go for a 200 mph pass :-)
You can find the land speed records at www.ecta-lsr.com in the modified section , in the classic category.

Went somewhere in the neighborhood of 175mph in my '78 camaro years ago... Using a set of ported 2.02 fuelie heads on a 9.0 to 1 355 engine. Had a 2.78 rear with 245/60/15 tires and had the tach at just over 6000rpms. Took FOREVER to get the last 20mph! Kept slowly inching up... literally buried the 145mph speedo back around to the stop peg at 0 which meant somewhere around 190mph! Though I found out later when I calibrated the speedo it was progressively innacurate as speeds increased: 28mph at 25 indicated, 60mph at 60 ind., 90mph at 100 ind.
Problem was my front end was off the ground. Had the 1980 Z28 ground effects body work on it but never put the front air dam on because I didnt like the way it looked... oops! Figured all that out when I went to make a mild corner on the freeway and nothing happened. Front tires completely off the ground! My brother saved both our lives when he realized what was happening and said "straighten the wheel first then hit the brakes!" I complied automatically (older brother used his "I'll kick your ass if you dont do it!" voice) and the car squirmed when the slightly off center tires hit the ground but I was able to then make the turn. On the outside shoulder after drifting over 5 lanes. I never attempted that again in that car- every time I contemplated it all I could see was the rows of trees lining the shoulder of the road, and my adrenaline overfueled right foot bouncing on the gas pedal so hard the engine was going 'vroom vroom vroom vroom' so fast it sounded like it was top fuel dragster idling. lol Got no problem doing it on a bike though! Go figure.......
