question about muzzy timing advance

I've seen muzzy's timing advance, and I have a bunch of questions about it.

1. How much power people can get out of throwing them on their bikes?
2. How easily are they installed?
3. How easily are they adjusted?
4. Could I see power increases without additional tuning?
5. Is this mod counter productive when using dry nitrous?

Additional info: I can access e85 now, and I was wondering if the zx14 is prepared to run e85, or are the fuel lines, injectors... etc built with stainless components. More realistically, there is some 94 octane right by my house, and that is 15% ethonal. I believe a little richer map, and pulling some timing could increase my power. Your thoughts and insight are appreciated.

There's a battle raging about what messing with the timing does on a 14 on another forum. I have looked at both arguments and both have merit. I have not reported what i have found on the dyno, because i don't use a DJ dyno'' so i figure why add another wrench in the works. I will say this, i just run good fuel and not fuss with the timing on small dry shots. If not over a 30 hit i run 93 pump, 40 and up i use u4.2 and or q16. This way no timing adj,is needed..... Bill

I didn't notice much of a power increase but it does run cooler now. Mine is set at 5*

I'm at +4 and it pulls harder, but the bike chatters badly sometimes at 3500 RPM under very light throttle...just my .02 worth

Very easy to install. Mine is advanced 4 deg. and it makes about 3-4 hp more everywhere as noted on a DJ dyno. I was surprised that it even liked it up top.

I don't know about using it with nitrous tho'

Someone else will have to chime in on that one

bump: where does it install? (the muzzy timing advance)
also
I was going to throw in a front sprocket (16 tooth). Ppl with experience, how much does this wake up the bike? My logic behind the sprocket is...... When I go drag racing, I can't hit it in 1st gear anyways, and 2nd seems like I could use a little more power because it doesn't really want to come up. Also, when I race liter bikes on the freeway, I start in 2nd at about 75, and they always get the hit because I'm a little low on the powerband. I believe going down 1 tooth in the front would give me the extra hit from a freeway roll-on.

I can hit it hard in 1st coming out the hole...if it comes up, just feather the throttle, if it spins...same thing. I launch around 5k or so and and peg the throttle all the way over when the light hits and I start out on the clutch. The clutch is all the way out rather quickly and the rest is just throttle control....

oh, and mine is extended too.

It installs under the right side cover. Very easy to install. A couple of simple hand tools, some blue loctite is recommended and some black silicone. The cover uses an O-ring so you don't even need a new gasket

They seem to make some gains all around throttle response also is better.but the thing is you have to allow more fuel all around the whole map ohterwise you'll burn your pistons up!Its happened to me and I had my bike tuned with the dyno guy fully knowing it was there set @6.5 degrees. It got so hot in my cylinders that my piston rings were melted to my pistons and the walls had buildup on them!AND THESE WERE JE'S! Put my engine back together using stock pistons did other things to compensate for the little power the advancer gave me.And believe me I'd much rather have the gains that I have now,it safer and makes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more power!

wait... so you still run and recommend the advancer???? I have a rich map, so that shouldn't be a problem. Also, are the stock pistons cast or forged? And I thought ppl were setting the advancer to 4 degrees, not 6.5.

I dont recommend the advancer because I saw first hand what its capable of if not tuned right! I took mine completely out. not sure of the material stock pistons are made of.Muzzy recommends 2 degrees but I was trying to squeeze the most I could get out of it.
