Design Engineering black Header Wrap.
I used 50 feet of 1" wrap for the four primary pipes and then some 2" wrap starting from where they join eachother back to the "Y" split.
MAKE SURE YOU SOAK THE WRAP IN WATER BEFORE INSTALLATION FOR A TIGHT, SMOOTH FIT AND WAIT FOR IT TO DRY BEFORE PAINTING!!!
For a super clean look after wrapping the front four in 1", I wrapped from the rear "Y" forward just a LITTLE bit with the 2" wrap, held the end of the wrap in place, then wrapped from where the 4 pipes merge up front towards the back, just overlapping the rear wrap and locking it all in place with stainless steel zip ties.
I then used a can of their black silicone sealant to finish the job. Looks perfect and has the look and feel of a medical cast used when you break an arm or leg. Next post in a lil' bit will have some pics.

by what i see you didnt remove any "cats" or "baffles" by installing a ricer muffler on your bike. and you think you got more performance with that thing?... to each their own is all i know to tell you...
The ricer muffler you refer to is a straight thru design and most definitely will make more power, the same as any other straight thru design. There are no baffles or cats in that muffler. Just because is doesnt say Muzzy on the side doesnt mean it isnt any good.
The cats and baffles on the ZX-14 are all located INSIDE the factory muffler (guess he didn't know that). The 2007 ZX14 has no center cat thus removing the stock mufflers removes all restrictions. The 3A muffler's quality INTERNALLY rivals ANY motorcycle specific pipe I've ever seen (and I've cut my share of them open in the 25 years I've been riding). They carry a LIFETIME warranty against perforation and "blowout" and will NEVER need repacking. The design is a straight through 2" perforated pipe and gives a deep melow tone at idle with a growl at speed. Installed on th 14, it sounds NOTHING like it normally does when mounted on an Accura or Honda if that's what the other poster was referring to as a "ricer" muffler. The outside "look" is a matter of taste, I happen to like the way it looks and as said earlier, at least it's DIFFERENT.
no i didnt know the cats were on the inside of the muffler.

If you cut the mid pipe off the muffler the cats are visible on that end. I am going to take a few pics today when it stops raining. Heck...I will shoot one of the cats...oh boy !!

NYC, yup it is an awesome sound and I really like the looks too. I am very tempted to install one on the left side but I would have to re-install the passenger pegs and add a muffler bracket as the left pipe doesnt have the extra supporting bolt that the right side has. I like the look without the pegs/bracket so I will be content with one. Thanks again for the advice !!
The bike keeps getting better and better !

Great Post!! I love the idea but the tail flair aint to my liking and thats just a matter of personal taste. When you are ready to shop a full system check the classified here and "other" 14 sites. I got my system 1/2 price used in "new" shape.
I'm concerned that the lean spot at about 3500 rpm might be really lean now. Try not to cruise in that range for extended periods until you can check your air/fuel ratio.

3A Racing makes dozens and dozens of different styles of mufflers, many of which look JUST LIKE bike cans. I originally bought the flair style one because it was being sold on ebay for 14 bucks and since I wasn't sure I would like the idea of a car exhaust on my bike, I chose to purchase it there rather than laying out $59.00 retail for another more "bike like" style from 3A.
However after hearing it "live", I fell in love and so it remains on my bike. After looking at (and hearing) other "full systems". I see no advantage to switching my headers as I'm not looking for a few hundreths of a second for 1/4 mile passes if in fact there is any gain anyway. I think the biggest gain is had by loosing the restrictive factory cans with their baffles and cats.
I DO intend on running it on a dyno just to be safe and know for SURE what gains I may have obtained regarding torque and horsepower.

quote: I just mounted a 3A Racing (car) muffler on my bike purchased through e-Bay for $14.00 and WOW! The sound is nothing short of INCREDIBLE! Three other guys have said it is by FAR the best sound they've EVER heard out of a race bike. I'm experiencing amazing torque and seat of the pants horsepower (Feels faster and definitely more powerful than the stock cans (even when gutted)). My bike is faster and lighter.
IMHO it looks great and saves a bunch of weight and I can't believe it turned out as well as it did! lol
Here's what I did:
1: Remove the old pipes.
2: Plug the left side opening at the collector.
3: Cut the bracket off the stock left can and rivit to the 3A Pipe.
4: Cut the factory midpipe right where it enters the factory muffler
5: Notch the front of the 3A muffler pipe so the installed clamp will "crush-fit" it to the factory stock midpipe.
6: Mount the new pipe and enjoy!
I'll post a sound clip soon.

Personally i think it wouldnt look all that bad if the tip was smaller or a little different, the can looks pretty good actually and anything looks better than stock. And i think it would make a little more hp and torque. I would love to see a dyno sheet!!!!

Obviously you don't know much about modifications. The can is EXACTLY the same inner diameter and length as MOST aftermarket bike pipes therefore MUST produce the same results. Contrary to popular belief, the ZX-14 stock header is a good design that flows smoothly and straight. On the 2007 model, there is no cat in the lower single pipe, only inside the stock mufflers. Once those are removed and the exhaust opened up to a sigle "straight-through" two inch opening as opposed to the dual one inch factory openings that are baffled and choked with dual cats, power increase is a given.
If it helps, I'll glue eight, one hundred dollar bills inside the can and THEN maybe it'll be as powerful as an aftermarket setup?

What is the diameter of the single flow path leaving the collector? Not the mid-pipe/muffler core diameter, but instead the exit at the collector (where the mid-pipe bolts up).

quote: What is the diameter of the single flow path leaving the collector? Not the mid-pipe/muffler core diameter, but instead the exit at the collector (where the mid-pipe bolts up).
I know what you're searching for so here's the calculations for you:
2" = the single side exit diameter from the Y split
2.25" = the inside diameter of the new can.
1.25" = the factory can diameter exit pipe.
Here's the total surface area of the factory dual pipes first:
1.25" stock pipe exit diameter (side one, I'll double this at the end for the factory dual pipes)
.625" = Radius of that opening.
The formula is: Pie X (radius X radius) = Area of the circle (or hole in our case) Pie = 3.14
3.14 X (.625 X .625) = 1.2265625
Here's the doubling: 1.2265625 X 2 = 2.453125 total area of the dual factory exit holes combined.
Here's the NEW setup:
2.25" new pipe diameter (single side ONLY)
1.125" = Radius of that opening.
The formula is: Pie X (radius X radius) = Area of the circle (or hole in our case) Pie = 3.14
3.14 X (1.125 X 1.125) = 3.9740625 total area of the new single sided exit hole.
The new setup has 1.6 times the exit pathway for exhaust gasses than the dual factory pipes combined. Add the fact that there are NO baffles (thus no bending and reversing of the exhaust gasses inside the muffler), NO cats and a better scavenging effect from the wrapped headers and straight flow path through the new straight muffler design and you can imaging how much better the new setup flows exhaust gas away from the motor.
To get it perfect, I'll need some dyno time and a PCIII but even now it is a BIG improvement over the stock cans both in performance AND sound. I've been riding sport bikes since 1984 and am quite capable of feeling power differences WITHOUT the help of a computer or dyno. So YES, it IS making more power because my ass says so.
FINE tuning will be done with the help of machines but I'll put my "seat of the pants feel" up against a dyno ANY day for a basic good/bad determination of power increase.
