zx14 vs zx12 all motor
looks like the zx14 by about 15 bikes after the zx12 guy ran his mouth that he already beat the zx14.http://s298.photobucket.com/albums/mm253/xabsolutx/?action=view¤t=2.flv

Stil, this will go on forever. Good rider on a good 12, will beat a bad rider on a 14.
Not saying I am king or anything, but my 12 works good, and on motor, the few 14s around, don't run with it, but they could if done up right, and should be outrunning me. zx13r on this board runs pretty good on his, head to head, at 68 inches for both, and same pipe on both, we run about the same, and weigh about the same.
These threads will go on forever, and don't mean shit.

Yeah, but I'll bet you a stack of transmission parts and rod bearings that the 14 holds up better.

depends on who builds it. Im willing to bet a JC 1361 would hold up as good or better than a factory 14

What does a stock motor zx12 run with the same mods as my stock motor zx14 run ... I can see a zx12 with a 1361 motor running my numbers but not a stock zx12 motor ...

I've never heard of a stock motor 12 running an 8.7 pass, but maybe there is one out there...

A stock motor 12 with a pipe, pc, 16-48 gearing @ 65inches with mr9 fuel, pirelli sc-0 or mickey tire will run 8.90 with a stock clutch...But forget about making back to back passes to run that number, you MIGHT be able to get another 8.90 pass on the second run usually unlikely due to the clutch being too grabby...So you'd have to wait about a half hour for the clutch to cool...Now with a lock up, Im sure NOX can tell us how many back to backs he can make!!!
Thats why the 14 is soo much better...It would be great if Kawasaki put the zx12 head on the 14, then it would be a little faster...
Or imagine the 12 motor with a 14 clutch!!!

You can't compare the two bikes because the 14 was developed to pass newer stricter emissions and make more torque throughout the rev range. The 12 is a very small stroke engine so it seems to be designed to rev higher so more peak HP is a result. Has anyone developed a cam and head combo for high rpm HP on the 14 for drag racing? Even the Busa has reduced the size of the throttle bodies on the second gen so maybe its also an emission thing.

I hate the 14 clutch.
its not apples to apples, as there is 150cc difference between the bikes.........,
I will take the zx12 clutch any day over the zx14, except........, I like that the 14 can have the lever held, with the quick access cover off........., only thing better than the 12, in all other aspects, for drag racing, the zx12 clutch is better, for VERY close fine tuning.
But, the 14 is in no way a shitty clutch, its good, just not as easy to tune.
Smokin, 154mph is a TON of mph, thats why its not an apples to apples comparo.
Give the zx12, the same ccs as the 14, and all bets are off.
These talks will go on in the internet forums forever.

I'll take my 14's clutch any day over my old ZX-12's clutch. Absolutely no adjustment on the 14's clutch during the whole 200+ passes on a set of fibers/steels.
My best pass on my ZX-12 was 9.11.
My best pass on my ZX-14 is 8.86.
My light rider's best pass on my ZX-12 was 8.95.
My light rider's best pass on my ZX-14 is 8.69.
Both bikes were set up near identically other than my 14 is a little longer than my 12 was.
I loved my ZX-12, but I'd pick my 14 any day. Its just so much smoother and easier to race, not to mention IT IS FASTER.

rhetorical question? 14 is the successor to the 12, but the 12 was something special. 1199cc 2000 vs 1352cc 2006, whats your point? i still prefer the 12 anyway.

I am talking about clutch tuning for lock ups Patrick.
You would have some issues trying to push as hard as you do on some of the looser tracks some of us run on.........
Thats been my whole point. You are comparing a zx12, to a bike with a much larger motor. Its not really a comparo..........
but, I have gotten 900 passes out of a zx12 clutch, all of them in the low 9 second range, and some in the 1/8 mile range fast enough to be 8.90s in the quarter. I think they are fine.

Nox, the 14 is a 12 with a stroker kit and a much better clutch...Just take some time getting use to coming from a 12!!!
900 total passes or 900 from one set of steels and fibers???
How often do you do back to back passes???

if the 12 had the same size clutch as the 14, it would be a better clutch. only because of the 6 spring design vs 5 spring.
if you bump the 12 up in ccs to be on an even playing field, it kicks ass. mines not the best example as its not tuned yet, and im not a lightweight, but im starting to get some decent times out of my little 1287

So all you changed are frictions out of spec and steels that were blue'd from time to time???
I'm sure you can do the same for the 14 !!!

They are harder to tune than a 14s clutch. Several reasons go into it.........
But, when you know what you are doing, they are very good, I do not see them as better than the 12 for lock up apps. Stock vs stock, part of the reason is that the 14 has a true first gear, and that helps keep clutch life up........
