first trip down the 1/4, couple ????'s
yeah, i finally popped my cherry on a street bike going down the quarter. got past the butterflies and managed a 10.49 at 138.5 first pass. 60' was a 1.86.
second pass, i tried to improve on the 60' but got a little too aggressive and was seeing way more sky than i was comfortable with. after that i was a little gun shy on the next three launches. i ended the night with my first launch as the best. i did manage to improve to a 10.38 at 139.5. all in all, i was really happy with the results.
now my technique i've been practicing for launching is to hold the throttle at 6000 and snap the clutch out, riding it out through first. it seems to work well but i'm wondering how other guys work the launch. i can't get a good answer at the track because every 14 and busa(actually pretty much all busa's) at the track have already been slammed and stretched while i'm still on a bone stock '08. i plan on strapping it eventually but for now i want to try to improve on the 60' as is.
i need to practice my shifting as well. from what i've been told, shifting w/o the clutch is the best but i keep instinctively grabbing for it. there should be a good drop in time there.
and does softening the rear compression help any with the 60's? i was told it helps but i don't see how as any extra squat is wasted energy not propelling you forward.
one final question. i'm 215 suited. does a change of gearing to 16/40 sound good? and will there be enough adjustment for it with the stock chain.

You did alot better than me on my first time out 11.2 and I was stretched and lowered. Power shift on your normal day to day rides and you'll get use to it. I preload the shifter then roll crack the throttle back

When are you getting the throttle all the way open?

i'm fully in it at the end of first. it's usually slowly coming up but i'll hit second before it's more than maybe 6 in off the ground. every time i've shifted to second has been with the clutch. sometimes second will float for a second as well. still need to get in a grove with remembering no clutch on the shifts.
