Sprocket Wear/Opinions?
I posted this in my build thread, but would like to get some feedback:
I have had good luck running AFAM alloy sprockets in the past. But they seem to be harder to get locally, so I decided to try a Renthal instead. I'm not happy with the results.
Here is a comparison of a new Renthal to an AFAM with some dragstrip, LSR, and maybe a thousand street miles. The Renthal is the one in front, notice the shape of the teeth:

Here is a Renthal with 30 dragstrip runs and 150 street miles:

The hard anodizing is wearing away rapidly. Maybe they are just not good for dragracing, where the chain is kept very taut. I'm not sure that I like the pointed shape of the teeth...they look "pre worn" to me.
These Renthals are advertised as being super durable...but it sure doesn't look like it to me. Anyone have an input on this?

I responded to your other thread.
Not only is aluminum softer than steel, especially if not hardness anodized, bu the lightweight sproket is done so by removing material.
Renthal sprokets are very thin laterally at the teeth and where the chain rides, and the lack of material can only equate to accellerated wear.

i dont believe that a bike with that much power n torque should run a alloy sprocket,,i always run steel, the extra weight is worth it,,

The AFAM is heavier than the Renthal, but still way lighter than steel. I think they take the lightening too far with the Renthal. At least for high hp applications.
I have heard good things about the Vortek sprockets, from a dragracer. I'm thinking of trying one of those. Right now, my favorite compromise for weight/wear is the AFAM.

My friend showed this to me. He pulled it off a customers bike who had chain jumping problems. The front sprocket was a 515. The chain was a 530, and this is a 520 sprocket I believe. For some reason they didnt work too well together...
