Added a 12V Cigarette Lighter Plug to my ZX-14 (pics)
Bored tonight, I installed a cigarette lighter plug from a Toyota into the left side instrument cluster cover. Now I can charge my cell phone, plug in a GPS or trickle charge my battery all from convienient spot on my bike. It's fused at the battery with a 10 amp fuse.
Two views of the plug and it's location:

Here's the plug with its cover opened:

Here's the fused connection at the battery before the wires were secured and tucked away:

And that doesn't interfere with the motion of the handlebars with a plug in it ? If not that looks like a great spot and theres two of them on the front fascia.

Socket is fairly deep and when in use, doesn't touch the bars at all. When bars are turned to FULL lock, I guess a long adaptor could hit the levers, but I don't have any long adaptors nor do I ever anticipate turning full lock when in motion.

Is it the same depth behind both spots? are all sockets the same depth or do they come in different sizes?

Mark your drill location CAREFULLY before drilling as there are clearance issues BEHIND the panel if you are "off" with your hole.

Not sure about either question as I didn't check the right side yet nor have I shopped for lighter plugs. I had this one laying around the shop so I put it to use. lol.

Yeah..... but it's GOOD speaker wire. lol I'm only using it for LOW amperage applications so it will be fine. If you require higher amperage, use better wire. I was in the electronics industry for 12 years in my "younger days" and know what I can and can't "get away" with. If you have ANY doubts about your application, by all means use heavier gauge/insulated wires.

With the Y-adaptor, you will PROBABLY have handle bar lever clearance issues. (I think)

Plug is 10 amp fused with a 120 watt limit which requires only 14 gauge wire for an 8.5 foot run. This particular twin lead is 12 gauge and would handle up to a 13 foot run.
The distance I used is only a few feet so I could EASILY run something drawing 10 amps.

What did you use to cut the hole? I'm about to do this project, and don't want to mangle the plastic!
