2007 ZX-14 Navigation Question
Hey guys, I just picked up my new 2007 ZX-14 Saphire Blue last night. Man, what a bike! I want to mount a Nuvi to the bars but I don't know where to tie in the wiring. I can make the mount no problem so if you can just tell me how to wire the power to it that would be great. Also, what exhaust do you recommend? Thanks in advance.

rich s-Welcome to the club! First, if you look on the third page of this board you'll see a service manual(from Black Magic) for your bike. On the 2nd page of that thread, you can download the entire manual. That should answer your wiring question....2nd- I recommend going with Brocks. If you purchase a system from them, you'll get top quality parts, dead on maps(no need to spend money on dyno), major performance improvement, good cometics, and awesome customer service/support. hi rich, I used the RAM hardware that came with my garmin ZUMO 550 that worked great. Dubious or one of the guys on here turned me onto it.
A more expensive and elaborate way is to use a techmount techmounts.com. I've always tried to avoid the stem mounts personally, but some like them. techmount now makes a mount that goes around the fork tube, not sure if that is an option for the 14, its not for a lot of bikes but check the page.
as far as where to wire, there are 12V constant places all ovbe the front of the bike, or you can go back to the battery. suggestion: fuse it if you go directly to bat.

This is exactly what the GPS looked like on my bike, and the pics I used as an example to make it happen
"It easily clears the gauges while riding, there is absolutely no obstruction:
I am using only the lower-bolt on the control mount, the other end of the Ram mount rests on the top of the handlebar mount. It's very solid and does not move at all:

Superman T, go with none other than the ZUMO 550 motorcycle GPS. It'll come with the hardware to mount to the 14 in the box, or you can go with the techmount option.
Too many options on it to list, but the fact it'll deal with 3 feet of water is my favorite so far, I've got caught in some serious tropical storms in FL and it held up much better than the bike and I!
I still have mine, and fortunately it has a 5 HOUR battery, because its "temp-mounted" to my litre-leaner :P

I have the Garmin NUVI 200W (for now). I keep it in my tank bag just like he does. I also have the power supply wired back to the battery and fused. Only problem is that I have to take my eyes off the road and cover the front of the unit from the sun in order to see it. At night a quick peek down and I'm good. At some point I'm gonna break down and get the real deal. The whole set up is $800 or better!!! If someone has a better price somewhere lemme know.

ya that bag mount is temporary for me too, but works great for a quick GPS fix
Amazon.com has it for $675 last I looked. I paid about 800 but that was over a year ago

Thanks for the reply's guys. I will take a close look at all the info this weekend.
I have had the bike for a day and a half. I put on just under 200 miles on it. Having to keep it under 4r's sucks but it is letting me get used to the bike slowly. I am in love with this bike so far.
One more question for you guys, my hands are getting sore on the longer rides. Is there a grip that is more comfortable on the hands then stock? Thanks again!

I can't help much with setting the bike up for comfort, but I'm sure some can. Grips swapped to foam, heavier bar ends, and someone even makes a product to raise the clip-ons in general.

You can try a new grip or palm-padded gloves… but what really helped for me was Bar Risers (Heli Risers), for there $ there is nothing that will make your bike more comfortable to drive on a long haul.

Thanks for the input. I will check out the new grips first. I do think that my body will get used to this. My last bike (FZR) was over ten years ago. Every ride is getting more comfortable though. Thanks again!
