still scared to do my bike.....

I am scared to just turn over my plastics to someone to airbrush....so I let a guy do the stock windscreen....

just told him I wanted a skull and some flames.....

this is the screen with no clearcoat.....

and this is the screen with clearcoat. It still needs to be sanded and a few more coats of clear put on.....

if he can get it to look glass smooth after he sands the clear, then I might think about letting him do my bike....best part of this is....the painting of the windscreen costs me a whopping $6. To do my whole bike will cost me a gallon of primer, a gallon of the main color I want to use, and about $50 for labor.....ah the benefits of having a prison craft shop. (One of the VERY few perks of working in a pen)

I'm in Wichita Falls, Texas.

I haven't seen any plastics that they have done. I got some plastics off of friends' wrecked bikes, so I will donate them for testing...lol.... spare my plastics from "jackassiree"..... I am not happy with the finish of the screen, but he says he can sand it glass smooth...we will see. If he does get it smooth to my satisfaction, then I guess I will have to narrow down my choices for my paint scheme.

Before my dad passed he was the director of the Voteh Schools at the prisons here in the state of Arkansas and we never paid labor... What is the fifty bucks about does he have something better to do with his time? I know it is a good deal but I had so much shit painted back then for just the cost of materials it aint even funny. DOnt pay that convict SHIT!!!! as a matter of fact before he goes back in general population make him bend and spread to make sure he aint sneaking the air brush gun back in with him LOL

As a reward for outstanding behavior...not just good behavior....some offenders have the privilege of being granted a craftcard.....there are craftshops set up on most units. Each inmate charges various fees for different items. They range for leather work to painting to woodwork to just about anything you can imagine.

I have had custom leather portfolios made throughout the years. They would have cost me 150-200 buck in the world, but I had them made for 20-25 bucks.

And there are very few convicts around anymore....this is the new-wave prison. And with the federal government knee deep in the care and custody of offenders, it is barely recognizable as a penitentiary anymore....it's more like a really long summer camp.

Now, if we had a paint shop in our vocation department, like 2 units do elsewhere in the state, I could get anything painted for a $5 paperwork fee plus materials. Vocation uses the work to teach the trade, but we don't have a paint shop here. Just craftshops, which the offenders use to make money for commissary or send money home to help out family.

If the prisoner wants to take some responsibility for his damn life, and try to earn some money for his family while he's incarcerated all the power to him!!! 10% of the real world rates sounds about right, he wants any more tell him you're gonna charge him rent.

there are plenty of talented folks in the prison....problem is, they didn't develop the talent until they were captive and bored....and he is only 1% as talented as some of the other airbrushers in there.....

God given talent wasted.Maybe they can change their lives before getting out.It seems that once a person gets though, they hang with the same crowd that got them in there.

Got the windscreen back today. It still needs to be wet sanded and re-cleared, but was unable to be done due to the non-stop raining we have had the last week.

I will post final pics of the finish windscreen next week...hopefully.....it is starting to look good for doing my whole bike....I liked the Ironman bike.....hmmm, maybe a Captain America bike???

Well, I only had it painted for 2 reasons...to actually see if they could do it, and to auction off for a lady that works with me who has cancer..... There is a bicycle race in town this weekend and I am riding escort with this windscreen...(name of the race is Hotter 'n Hell 100, hence the skull and flame design) I figured somebody with a 14 would buy it and I would just donate the proceeds to the fundraiser we are holding for her after the race.....
