You got the right one, baby!

Hey everyone! So I plan to take a little mini-trip in a couple weeks and I wanted to get a quality tank bag for the ride. I looked through past messages and noticed one by the brand name Wolfman but I was mainly looking for a magnetic one not a tie-down, safe on the paint, a map window would be nice but I think I might end up getting GPS anyway, and something that doesn't take away from the sportiness of my bike, you know? Not too clunky? I was considering the Joe Rocket Manta but I overheard someone saying it messed-up their paint job… any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

i have the manta bag and noticed some paint fade on the tank cowling. the problem is that it covers the tank fill/vent and was trapping gas vapor plus i always left it on 24/7. now it's only on the bike when it's being ridden and i've had no more paint problems. i'm sure any similar bag would cause the same thing to happen

To avoid scratching/marking up my tank while using a tank bag.
1. A really good coat of protective wax.
2. A clean piece of terry cloth cut the fit the shape of the bottom of the tank bag.
3. Don't use the magnetic ones. They slip around and mark the paint. Use one with good secure quick release hardware.
4. Remove the bag as soon as you have finished the trip.

Or use one like my present one. A Bagster Tank Bra and tank bag combined. Great tank protection. Easy to lift rear to fill with gas. Looks very European. (it should, it is made in France) Most of the time your see them on big Beemer touring bikes.

I use painters Masking tape under my bags, or vinyl. Painters tape comes right off. On some of the other spots I use the vinyl. I can get a sheet of color matched vinyl 12" X12" (or larger)for about $2 from my local window Decal shop.

Also use the painters tape when I have the bike strapped to the trailer. I've taken some long roadtrips with soft panniers, tailbag, and tankbag stuffed to the gills. No marks, scuffs, or chaffing anywhere on my '06.

++FWIW, I use a straped tankbang with sheepskin on the bottom.

+1. Very nice set-up you have, ratbyk. It looks real comfortable. Those foam grips you have, do you know if it is good for people with big ol' bear paws? I hate the small stock ones I have.... my fingertips touch my palms. Thanks for the advice on the tank bags btw.
