high pitched whine?
Hey all! Question for ya'll. I've got an '08 with 870 miles on her. after about 600 miles, ive noticed theres a high pitched whine that changes with RPM, and is noticable even at 70. Chain wouldnt change pitch like that. Sounds like Gear/Alternator whine. Im still getting used to the beast and i know all bikes have quirks and noises they make. So I ask, is that common? I also have a rattle above 3k rpm. Not sure if i have a loud injector or my tipover sensor makes noise :P
TIA
-Mike

Mike, Not sure about thw whine all the time but I can help with the rattle. It is the tipover sensor. There was a thread on here a while back about the rattle and how to fix it. Well not fix but muffle it. What you have to do is take off the windscreen find the sensor and wrap it in foam and electrical tape and it will quiet it down quiet a bit.

Whine is the heavy duty aftermarket style gear box that Kawi installed on the 14 stock. Just gonna have to live with it, kinda like when you have a turbo and gotta live with its whine.
'Busa's don't whine like that. But they do blow trannies.

The whine doesnt bother me in the slightest. Sounds like a jet ready for liftoff I just wanna make sure its normal. Kind of in the same vein as my friend's '04 R6. That thing makes so much lifter noise that i'd swear it'll blow at any time. Apparently thats just how the strung-out 600 sounds. Im fine with the whine as long as thats normal. Thanks fellas! I just found out that my 14 goes under the knife this weekend to have all the mods put on at once. Can't wait

the whine sounds like the balancers. the 14 has 2 of them. read the service manual on how to adjust them.

yeap, but they aint pretty. R/H is perfect, L/H isn't... worked fine, got them from Ebay for $320 and added $70 for the silencer baffles. L/H midpipe is bent up ($110 for new one from my local kawi dealer, cheaper online), also L/H muffler has some scratches that need buffing out and the emblem ($15) needs to be replaced. I have it in the classified section right now but no serious offers.
After I move this week, I'll just order the stupid midpipe myself and finish buffing out the scratches and sell it for alot more. or you can save me the trouble! They were just temp for me, now I got my 4 into 1 Muzzy M10 setup and don't need them anymore. Though I do love that deep growl that made Harley owners turn there heads! Now they just ignore me again lol.
