Sweet Birthday Present

My birthday is coming up and my girlfriend told me what my present is, because i have to take the day of work. Thursday i will be a Pacific Raceways taking Mike Sullivan's "beginning racer" road racing class.

I had been wanting to get into doing trackdays but always figured i would pick up a 600 or literbike for doing that.

Since she went to all the trouble and expense of planning such an awesome birthday present for me, i guess i will see how the 14 turns.

I have never been to pacific raceways but their website says it is a 2.25 mile course with a 170mph front straight, and their website: www.pacificraceways.com has a map of the track showing all the turns.

Since she told me i have not been sleeping, i have been so excited. I will post some pics and a report of how it went afterward.

wish me luck

Woot! I live in Burien and have done a trackday there. on a 2001 Bandit 1200 no less. Regardless of what you ride, you'll have fun. The back section will require a bit more muscle but meh. They will point out all the bumps to avoid (track needs a re-pave BAD). Lots of elevation change and a twitsty layout through trees. Get ready to open up your wallet b/c you WILL get hooked

PS--> There was a 'Busa and a 14 racing at the Seattle 100 last weekend

Someday we'll look back on all this and plow into a parked car.

do you have to do any special prep to the bike to ride on the track or can you bring it as is?

I think for track days you would have to have the usual safety wiring, etc...
For this class that she signed me up for they just want
- No fluid leaks of any kind
- lights, signals, mirrors taped over
- new or almost new tires
if i remember right, that was the whole list

i could dig that. i wouldn't want to tear up my street bike to take it on the track.

i'm hoping i don't do that the first time out. If i get hooked i will definitely be in the market for a track bike to thrash on.

i was talking about wiring stuff and removing lights, you won't hurt the bike if you take it easy

Most orgs in WA dont require safety wiring unless you run in the faster groups. Beginner/Intermediate just requires tape, no leaks, good tires, and good rider gear.

Killer present! Good luck and keep the right side up! You know with the recent thread,"corners, corners, corners" you should be able to supply some recent evaluations that will prove to be beneficial to most. Hopefully you can give great insight!

I will give whatever insight i can. I know the handling of this bike keeps me happy on twisty roads, but with deer, cages, etc.. i am never pushing it at anywhere near 100% of the bikes ability. I am sure tomorrow i will get a better idea of waht the bikes limitations (or mine) are.
