bad things happen....

I have come to the realization that bad things happen when really big guys get talked into going to the drag strip and then get talked into dragging their bike........ I think I was happier just being oblivious to my real, and TIMED, reaction times, 60 foot times, 330 foot times, 1/8 mile E/T's, and everything else that gets printed on that little piece of paper for the whole world to see. I was MUCH better at my guestimates for the above categories. Of course, having read all of the times folks post on here didn't help me any when that guy at the finish line hut would give me a time slip and just smile...... that bastard......

Anyway, just thought I would throw the times up here for you guys to giggle at, as I got a good laugh. And did I mention it was my first time to actually race my bike on a track??? lol
It was also my buddy's (08 GSXR 1000) first time at the track too. Hell, we got there at 11-ish, paid $5 a piece for an estimated 45 minutes of track time left, signed some papers and 10 minutes from entering the complex I was lined up in the stagging lanes......
They were running some cars from bracket racing that occurred all day. In between the cars, there were about 6 or 7 bike races before they ran another set of cars. My first timeslip says 11:12, and the last 11:50. I was happy with the overall experience, especially on the track/management side of it. (Sooner Motorplex in Lawton, Ok)

the eighth mile is all about 60 foot times, the rest gets better when you get off to a good start. more practice will definitely help. i dont take mine to the track often and there is a steep learning curve. lots more traction than the street. love the pics, have fun!

what were most of the other bikes runnin, and whats your elevation and 1 more did you happen to get the DA for your runs.

That's like me everyone on here has a mid 9 for a time slip and I'm a second slower but if all the bikes came up to my track they would be around a mid to low 10, the DA at the track i run at is usually over 8000' and the track prep sucks big time.
Actually i have never seen a 9 second pass at are track on a bike

DA???

Our elevation is 1019' above sea level.

The other bikes were running 7.0_ through 9.3_ for the regular street bikes. (no wheelie bars, no NOS, no turbos

I have a Pilot Power 2CT tire. I know if I had a shinko, I would have had more rubber to the ground.

It was a fun night. Wouldn't mind doing it again, just not going to be a regular thing for me...

I envy the 150-nothing guys that get to go fast really quick.....

DA stands for "Density Altitude Correction" or something like that (been awhile). It means, when air temperature and air pressure are taken into account, what would the bike/car run at sea level in 60 something degree weather? It's commonly referred to as "Correction Factor".

Your story ain that bad, check this out: My brothers wife bought a 2002 Firebird (V8). She loved to talk about how great a driver she was (dont they all?), about how good she was at launching etc. and made the mistake of telling my brother that it was faster than his high 12 second IROC.... he brought her along next trip to S.I.R. heh heh

When the reality of what she had been bragging about suddenly came to roost, two cars back in the staging lanes, she starts hyperventilating. Inside her helmet, windows up, engine off in 90 degree weather. Fingers white from the death grip on the wheel. damnit... pulled her out of line and calmed her down, told her to take it very easy, ignore the lights, just go when the next guy goes, let the clutch out like you are just leaving a stop light then roll on the gas, first runs dont count just get the feel for it etc.....

She redlights, dumps clutch at 6K, tires smoking bouncing off the rev limiter all the way down the track till it finally caught up to the tires. Never takes foot off the gas, just slams second gear and another loooong smoke show. Crowds cheering (not knowing it wasnt her showing off), she pulls a 19.2 second 1/4. She gets back to the pits bawling her eyes out, beat red in embarrassement. (literally) 30 minutes of cajoling and reassurring that that kind of thing happens and she won't be the slowest car to run that night, I see a brand new Lincoln Limousine at the lights. "Watch Lisa, that guy right there is gonna be the slowest car tonite". He pulls a perfect launch, runs a 18.0 quarter-mile.... She erupts in tears again....

Dead serious, exactly how it happened! Side note: my brother overheard a guy in a new supercharged SVO Mustang laughing a little to loud about how slow that Firebird was, so he offered a heads up. My bro slammed a 1.8 60 footer on the way to a 13.1 to his 13.3 in the "slow" Firebird. His wife, who didnt know he had ran her car, burst into tears once again when she overheard the Mustang owner say "damn man, that car really is fast if you know how to launch it".

I still laugh to this day.
