Ditched the M-10
As much as I liked the looks of the M-10, it was too loud/annoying for me and my neighbors.So I was able to swap out the M-10 For a Yoshimura TRC system.

The yoshi sure has a goofy sound at idle, so I took some steel wool and plugged the area under the ole in the tailpipe and it sounds much better. I have no idea what the purpose of thet hole is. Anyone know?

I have the same feeling about my muzzy exhaust. I got it a week ago and it is also loud. At higher speeds it's just screaming. It would be good if they gave different choices on loudness.I was hoping to get a street baffle insert to replace the one that's in it. I've also tried many maps to get it to run the best. It pops and backfires.

Cruisin, mabey that hole is a moisture drain. Is it at the lowest point of the system?

Is the Muzzy M10 LOUDER than the Brock's SMEG? I know Brock has a silencer, is there not one offered for the M10?

or it's not an O2 sensor bung is it?  Where is the hole located? ( surely it's a moisture drain )

The hole on the yosh is for a annodized aluminum ring and a short tube that inserts into the exhaust opening. It makes the exhaust quieter. Once this baffle is removed, it leaves a small hole that was for the bolt. For those that don't know, the hole is located at the very back of the exhaust on the 6 o'clock position of the outlet. It makes a chirpping noise as the air goes past it

Thanks Fifth for letting know its purpose. I thought it might have something to do with the vents around the tip. Knowing that all it does is mount a baffle, I might get it welded up. Unless the wad of steel wool stays in place. If I don't pint it out, no one even sees it.

I was never able to eliminate the pop on decel at 3,500 rpm, but had gotten rid of most of the rest by modifying a Muzzy map. I think Brock's AlienHead would have been a better choice for me initially as it has a removeable baffle. But the Yoshi swap didn't "cost" me anything. I still haven't put the bike back on the dyno yet. I suspect the #'s will be abouth the same. I just want to make sure the A/F is OK.

Hi there,
I have the M14 header with M10. At 5th and 6th gear on long rides the thing is barely buzzing. Of course anything above 6k rpm starts to make some noise, as it should.
The first night I put the system on I went for a test ride at 1am. I got 15 feet down the road and thought I'd have to get off and push. But my wife explained it's not any louder than most stuff she hears on the street. Maybe because the pipe is shorter and more under your ear that you "think" it's louder.
I've got 500-ish miles on the new Muzzy's and I have learned where to be in the RPM range to keep things quiet.
I'm keeping mine.

From what I've heard they are almost identical, a slight tone difference, but noise level = same.

air injection plates,
if the air injection system is still functional, the exhaust leans way out when the valve opens and makes it pop.
A better way to go is route your crankase vent to the air injection ports, eliminating the valve completely, then your crankacase is scavenged, and you air box will not get all oily.
I have always beleived in running my oil level near the top of the sight glass, as hard launches and low oil levels can starve an oil pump.
The increased oil level and extended high rpm's... LOL (don't ask where LOL) will fog the airbox.
If you run the crankvent to the air injection ports the airbox will stay free of oil!

Okie Dokie, good explanation. Now tell me where to look to find all this, lol.
The onyl thing I've done to the stock 08 is have the dealer remove the charcoal thing under the rear seat, I this entailed some rewiring of the vent hoses.
Then I did the mods in my sig. I'm pretty sure my air injection system was never touched.

Hi I'm considered new here as I usually leave all the stuffs to my mech. I'm using a Brocks Gen 3, with the block off plates inserted. My mech got the block off plates from APE. There is a AFC (Air Flow Controller) that comes stock with the bike. U can check the owner's manual under clean air intake. Its a small square thing that controls the air flow into the engine i think.
Anyway, its removed long ago for the reasons as dubious has said. However, my bike still pop/backfires when i hold the throttle and close it suddenly. This is a norm and not everyone can have it. Its a good sign that ur bike is a little on the rich side. The block off plates are inserted to replace the two plates slightly forward of your spark plugs. its to cut off air in take.
I hope my .02 cents help. Remove the AFC controller and put in the block off plates, Dun expect it to remove the pops though.

I was interested in the m10 initially and on paper, Muzzys claim the m10 is the loudest in (their) production so far. Later on due to forums influence I used a Brocks Gen 3. During idling, its not very loud it sounds like a stock in fact the engine sounds louder than the exhaust @ idling. when i pick up its a solid low note . I haven asked my fried wat it sounds like at high speed. [cause no one dares to take off the helmet while speeding... joking] but being a megaphone, the m10 is not surprising to be louder than Gen 3 Gen 3 looks like old school exhaust but give me the power i want. I'm from Singapore, the government is strict here about race exhausts...

I also went with the Yosh TRC in Titanium as I wanted a pipe that was going to be on the quieter side. Excellent fit and finish and I think it sounds great but not loud.
