Radar Love

As you would guess from the name of the string, I got tagged by the WSP for 85 in a 70. He was using a Laser as it provides specs on my ticket.
I see these guys hiding in bushes or behind corners, (as in my case), with their radar guns aimed. It's only fair that we can at least defend ourselves by knowing ahead of time that they're out there.

I've never had a radar detector, so I really don't know if they work or not. How well do they work against Laser? Too many false alarms?

How about the VizAlert system? It looks cool. A light flashes in your peripheal to alert you of radar. Is it any good? Has anyone mounted one on the ZX-14?

Check this out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Bel-RX65-Wireless-Motorcycle-Radar-Detector-w-Vizalert_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38654QQihZ006QQitemZ160255308297QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

What do you think?

The problem with laser is that your detector won't go off until they press the button...by the time you hear your detector go off...they got your speed. You have to get a jammer for those, but they are generally illegal. Depends on the state though.

Some Guy- I use an Escort Solo 2 for two reasons;

1st- It's cordless!!! The battery consumption is moderately acceptable(I changed the 2 AA batteries every 60-90 days or so). I hate the look of wires....looks too aftermarket

2nd-Easy to transfer. I move my detector to my bike or car easy(again no wires and additional harness for different vehicle)

3rd- I know this sound petty but LOOKS- The ZX14 has a blue instrumental panel which runs parallel to the screen on the Solo 2. Once again I know most wouldn't care but I'm a bit of a detail guy.

Yes this detector covers most-all current forms of law enforcment means of speed calculations. However this does not cover when they pace you( that means following you and use their travel speed to predict your travel speed) and when they leave the gun off and wait for the right Bike/car to past and just radar spray at that moment.
All in all, I try minimize my travel speeds to the limit posted. The police full time job is to catch speeders so they know a bike/car is speeding even though they have not hit you with the gun yet. Just like a true fisherman know how/where to catch fish!

I wish I took a pic of my detector on the bike but I didn't yet. When I do, I'll try to remember to send you a PIC.

Thanks butterthegreat. I don't know the WA state laws in these regards. I'll have to find that out first.
Hey Superman. Looks matter to me too. I also don't want to worry about someone stealing stuff off the bike either. A pic would be great, and while you're at it, how about a good shot of the black brocks I saw on another post?

I'm not a speed demon, nor was I trying to make up time. I was just a ... stretching the muscles to fight fatigue.

I think they should abolish the speed limit in wide open/empty places. However, I don't think any of us should wiz by other drivers at great speeds. Moderation... Nothing like life changing accidents that ruin lives. With that said, I totally respect what these guys go through day in and day out. I'm sure accident scenes scar people for life. But sometimes there's a good place for it and sometimes not...
BTW, the officer was pleasant and polite. I can't knock him. I just don't want these to start piling up on me.

some guy go to PNWRiders (northwest section) and search for lawyers. you can have that ticket tossed for $200-$300 dollars. "Been there done that", and that website seems to be the repository for all the cheapest/best lawyers in the state. Not to mention most of the ride, too. Do it, trust me you dont want that ticket hangin over your head for the next 3 years!! Even if your insurance rates dont go up, you will be worried about getting a second ticket so much it will slow you down,,, errr I mean "dampen your enthusiasm".

Not to go off on a rant here, but 90% of speeding tickets are issued in the cause of generating revenue for the city/state/county. Radar/laser units used by most law enforcement are provided by insurance companies - since they get to jack your rate and share in the spoils.

If safety were the goal, cops would be targeting bad drivers, the no-turn-signal lane switcher, left lane hoggers (and anyone else who gets in my way, dammit!) etc.

Help is here. First thing first. Before u go to court. Check out the laws in your area. Here"s how u fight your ticket. Police cannot be hidden in bushes. it is against the law. the law states that they must be visible at all times. Check out the laws for speed traps. speed traps r also against the law. Check with a laywer. Now here is what you can do for yourself to stop laser and their guns dead in their tracks. It's call the Blinder X-Treme M25! Effective against all laser guns including the Kustom and Kustom ProLite. 100% protection from from all laser. totally invisble. My 08 14 has this on it. It works so good it"s scary. goto this
site and watch the video. http://www.radarbusters.com/laser-jammers/laser-jammers/blinderm25xtreme.cfm. Here is how we can fight back against police who can"t even obey their own laws. Good luck.

on a slightly different note,,,, I was looking at buying some 904nm leds and build my own system when i read this ...

quote:
The unit uses the license free 904nm laser frequency. The same frequency as used by several motor manufacturers' (e.g. Nissan, Toyota) adaptive cruise control system which uses laser to determine the distance immediately in front of the vehicle and to deactivate the cruise control if the stopping distance is considered to be too short. Police laser guns also use the same 904 nm frequency.

In order to prevent interference with other laser based systems the Laser Pro Park has been designed to alert the driver of possible interference and if necessary switch the system off.

maybe I should be building an adaptive cruise control that may just happen to interfere with laser units :-0
