Missing 30 years .... I found it !!!!!!

In 1978 i sold my 70 1/2 Rally Sport Camaro to a friend and 30 years later my old friend still has it !!! It was my street race car , 427 4 speed ... It a real RS car with the rare split front Bumper .... I has been sitting in the same place inside a friends shop for the better part of 30 years ... I made a deal for 2500 bucks and all i need is a shipper to get the car from TX to FL ... Anyone know a shipper ?? It's a little Dusty from setting 30 years but it rust free .... Smokin ...

Thanks ... I have been looking for years for any of my old hot rods .... Untill today i have not found one of them and i had a bunch of cars over the years ... I have chased down cars to only find out it wasn't my old car .. This one still has my name on the title !!!!! The guy i sold it to never put it in his name .... I think i'm going to put it back just like i had it 30 years ago ... 427 4 speed , Red with Craiger wheels .... Hurst T handle and old Super Sun Tac... lol.....

Teddy he blew up the 427 doing a burn out at the track just shortly after i sold it to him ...So the 427 is long gone , it was a 390 HP 427 that i pulled from a 1969 Cop car that i put a cam, intake and header on ..... I'm thinking ZZ 572 crate motor and a 6 speed ...

That will cost you a little $$ but would be kick ass! So will it be the 620hp street engine or the 720hp Race engine? Hell a 502 would be plenty. LOL

I would just put a good stout 400 to 500hp motor in it, upgrade the suspension and brakes and make it a G machine. Low and mean.

+1 on the G machine. It's rediculously easy to find parts for that year, throw a 4 link (pain in the ass to tune but OH the difference in ride!), tubular A arm front, good lowering springs and hefty sway bars, 4 wheel disc brakes and thats about it for handling. Had a '78 Z28 that I did that on (except the tubular A arms), and it handled like it was on rails when I had the small block in it. Once beat a early 1980's Ferrari on a twisty backroad. We stopped to BS afterwards and the guy shows me his race slicks, roll bar, gutted interior and says its his SCCA race car that I just beat. Then spends the next 30 minutes literally climbing inside of and under my car trying to see all the mods I did. He couldnt believe a ugly POS like my car could handle that good with those basic mods! No shit fellas, he was a classic Microsoft Millionaire, head of there Server Software division I believe. Tried to talk him into swappin rides but he wouldnt let me

For those of you in the know about them camaro's, I had my weight down to 3200 pounds without going fiberglass, 4 spd muncie, 8.5" 10 bolt, etc... It got a bit windy inside of it going down the road, but railed like hell and ran a 12.8 quarter mile in 95 deg heat.

Smokin want a hookup on the real lip spoiler your car is supposed to have? I sold it to a friend who wrecked my old '71 camaro before installing it. Sold it for $250 (a steal!) and don't think he would charge much more for it.

Why would you want a 6 speed? An auto is waaaaay faster. If I were you I would just build a nice little 496 for it and run 6.xx's on motor like my buddies 68 does.

auto trans are power sappers, thats why bawls. and they arent fun to drive. A race kitted 3200rpm stall Turbo 400 takes 25-30% of your power by itself, a similar Turbo 350 is 20%, whereas a old school 4 speed with a 11" clutch is around 12-15%. A newer ZF6 speed trans with a 10" dual friction clutch is around 8-10% - even though its physically much larger than even a Turbo 400 trans!

Which combined with the more ratios of gearing allowed gives the stick the advantage. As long as the guy shifting is a maniacal speedshifting machine. The general rule of thumb is a stick is faster until you are running into the high 10's in the 1/4mile (depending on the skill of driver).

I happened to be friends with a guy who had a '57 chevy 2 door, all steel, that ran 9.20's with a stick and clutch. After he finally broke down and got a Powerglide his times dropped into the 8.80's - once he dialed it in and bumped up his NOS shots to fully utilize it.

And if he plans on street driving it, there is no replacement for a stick shifts fun factor! Or road racing behaviour.

Nice car smokin.
They were a good lookin car, and the big blocks were real beasts
the 396 and 427 short stroke engines could handle 7000 rpm for eternity it seemed.

My uncle had a '70 LT1 Camaro SS.
He used to get real mad when my mom spanked him with Dads 64 Falcon
It had a '70 351 Cleveland and c-6 trans.

Man i had a 71 ss el camino, with the last of the 454's that had any balls. IT had a decent intake an cam for the time. It was a auto 400 turbo with 373's. The car ran 12.70's spinning which it did most of the time. Like lee said we had to do things diffirently back then,we didn't have the luxary of ordering race parts from a book. When i met my wife i was stationed at daligren VA, and she was using car to go to work every day'' she let it get away from her in the rain and totaled it. My dad had a 63 galaxy 500 4dr with a 427 side oiler in it with two four barrels /4speed. This car was supposed to become a taxi for NYC but ended up at the local ford dealer where my uncle worked. He still has the window sticker 3456.98 man you talk about a sleeper. I remember as a kid he banged second i was standing on the front seat, I think i was 6 and it flipped me clear into the back seat and floor, needless to say i learned earlier on that med blk fords pulled their ass off. Sorry for going so long but this post really brings back some neat ass memories!! Bill...

Damn Smokin, you lucky bastard.... Gratz on your old find bro, cant wait to see this thing on the road... Actualy have been lookin for a 70'-72' to put together for my gal. since we have been to the track a few times she seems to want a 6-7 sec 1/8 mile track car. I told her if we quit buying toys we could do something like that but damn, just got her 08' Bullit mustang about 2 mo ago and just got her a 08' ZZR600 about 4 weeks ago... seems she wants the new toys before I can get an old one to play with lol....

Let me know when you get this thing in FL so I can come check it out, maybe I can talk my gal into finding one like it to play with....

BTW im an old Impala fan, I let a 66' SS slip through my fingers about 14 years ago and have been kicking myself in the ass every since. Since then I've had a 70 and a 74, the 74 had a small block 400-cam, duel exhaust, headers, edelbrock alum intake, holly 650, 350 turbo with shift kit, think we was pushin like 400hp in that tank of a car... hooked like a bitch for the size of it... not to mention the 67 and 72 chevy trucks I put together.... shit i can go on with the cars my dad and I have made sleepers out of... his 78 nova he has now is pushin 425 hp and 400ftlbs tq, pisses my mom off every time he fires it up, shakes shit off the walls in the house LOL... if he would only sell that bitch to me we would both be happy, me the car and him the cash
