What gives???

I havea 07 ZX14 a fully Muzzy M14 exhaust (carbon fiber), flies pulled, PCIII with Muzzy map from Dynojet website, stock air filter with the wire mess removed, swingarm extensions running about 6 inches of extension, Pilot Power 2CT on the rear with 30 psi, 16 tooth front sprocket, 41 tooth rear (with a 43 tooth on the way).

The problem: There are 2 bone stock 08 GSXR 1000's that I can't touch. I can get them off the line (when my tire doesn't spin) but they take me on the top end. I know both of them have stock gearing with nothing more than a Jardine GP pipe (i.e. no gearing, PCIII, aftermarket air filter, etc). Even when doing a 60 mph roll on open road, they will pull away from me a few bike lengths in each gear as we go through the gears....I get out of it at 180 and they are still pulling me at that point (and I have a speedohealer to correct the speedo error so 180 means 180).

Now, I ain't a professional rider, but I know I am not having that much rider error to account for them walking all over me EVERY time. Both bikes dyno'd on the same dyno I use, and put out less torque and rear wheel horse. Can my weight be having that big of an impact on my set up....and if so, what are my options, without breaking the bank, to improve my acceleration to an acceptable level considering I have a 14. The funny thing is, I have went against several busa's and have not had this problem.

Both riders on the two 1000's were 165ish and 210. I am 6' 7" and 370.

And for constructive criticism......I ain't no Smokin'........... (and the videographer was no Francis Ford Copalla either, he didn't get the launches.......grrrr

You should't even be comparing yourself to those lighter weight guys, your in a different class!!!

Just go to the strip and better yourself by practice and more practice!!!...Get into bracket racing, forget headsup stuff...

370 pounds is the cause .... The fix is more power or lose weight .. The truth is you need to drop 170 pounds .. I know you are a big guy and no way are you going to drop that kind of weight .... So spray or turbo .... Spray being the cheapest .

I know it is only one clip, but from what you could see, the tire spin and weight would be enough to allow the 1000's to keep up?? Just wanted to make sure I didn't luck out and get the only 14 that made like 100 rwhp...... (stock it dyno'd 169)

but the 14 is very slimming on me...didn't you think??? lol

It's all weight ..... If i were to add 100 pound to my zx14 i would not be running close to my 8.80s, i'd be lucky to run 9.50s ... There was or still is a member name kawipower that weighs 350s and has run 9.s with spray on his zx14 ... It can be done ....

power to weight makes a huge difference, 220 to 140 lbs is a big difference much less 370.
if you can do some roll ons first with yourself and a known competitor, then get a trusted lighter weight jock to do the same. i mention roll ons because it takes some of the rider skill out of it. you will not believe the difference. 50 pounds can be the difference between heads up and walking away. i weigh 260 and know it does handicap the performance.

Well, I am glad to know that I am not that bad of a driver....kind of makes me feel pretty good to be able to keep up with them knowing I have a handicap.....

the longer wheelbase does make it easier (and more forgiving) when launching. Had I lauched the bike without the extra length, it would have been wheelie city until 120 mph or so.....

At 370 lbs, all you got to do is tell them you're gonna literally whoop their ass for them if they don't let you win one.
Seriously though, you are at a big disadvantage, ever consider wrestleing?

While racing cars, I always heard a 100 lbs loss of weight was good for a tenth in the 1/8 mi, What's the formula for bikes, 30 lbs???

Around 25-30 lbs on a bike is 1/10th in the quater mile. My buddy weighs 50 lbs less than me, and on my bike he is 2.5 tenths quicker than I am with the same 60 foot times.

Sounds familar....I can out-launch them from time to time, but they come right around me after 100 ft or so

You guys should really consider racing at the drag strip instead of the streets. And then you say they pull at 180?? Why race to the top end??? Sorry I've just seen and heard of too many racers getting killed on the streets. Be safe bro!!

Actually, our group usually is at the local drag. This road is closed. They are building a huge business park and the road only has one inlet. It has a 1/2 mile run-out on the back side of the crest in the road. And believe it or not, there is an ambulance service at the entrance to the business park on/in a pre-existing property/structure.

It seems like you must know these guys pretty well... If you really want to see what is up... Have one of the 1000r riders ride your bike and race the other 1000r rider. Watch your bike look a whole lot different in the end.

Or just switch bikes with someone and watch them disappear into the distance... Either way the video will look a lot better for the 14 lol Have fun.. and as said.. be careful!!!

I used to own a 450 Honda Camelback with Venoila pistons, and a full race Ravisi cam. Removed a valve umbrella on one exhaust valve so the right cylinder would smoke hide the valve clatter. Had a lot of fun beating the new Kawi H-2 especially making the 450 as ratty looking as possible. Stock liter Gsxer are fast but not that fast.

Fifth- Not that I'm a pro @ drag racing but I did noticed that you spinned quite a bit and that gixxer had a much better start(he was totally straight also). I know everyone has mention weight above but if you were to make a bit more alterations with your launches, you might be able to get that 1000. The Gixxer 1000 is definately one of the fastest liter bikes out(behind the ZX10) so it won't be a slouch if an error is made by the appoinent. Good luck with your launches and be safe(that includes no tickets for racin on the street).

i have the same problem alot of the times my 14 is underpowered to run with the big dogs but i will do my best to out ride them, i have won many races against lighter weight riders with more HP just by yanking them off the line and by the time they catch me it will be to late

Geting them out of the hole is key. I just recently raced a friend of mine with another friends 14. He has me by about 75lbs. I took him out of the hole though. 15psi in the tire and no more than 4 grand with the launch. 5 when tire is really hot. Thats on the streeet. Otherwise your just gonna spin through first and thats valuable time wasted.
