Your bike should easily be able to handle 300km distances if you ride normally. I figure if I rode a normal 75mph, I could probably get at least 200 miles out of the tank. But however you choose to mount the external tank is up to you. As long as it stays attached, and is not in your way, its all good.

I read an article somewhere on how a guy modified his tank on a GSX-R 1000 (I believe) to get more fuel capacity. Something to do with a battery relocation and such. Don't quote me on it. you might have to google it. That extra cell is nice if it is gonna be a temp solution to your problem but if you are really in that bad of a spot maybe you should do some research and see about upgrading your fuel capacity. When I see that red can I thinkg about things like heat or a pssible low side and sliding ON THAT SIDE and you engulfed in flames shortly afterwards. Maybe you should look into fabricating something that mounts high and to the rear almost like a a hard tail bag would? In any event, good luck with your experiment.

Hell! Did a little research myself and came across this:

It may obviously work better on crusiers but If you are crafty enough I'm sure it can be applied to sportbikes as well.

I went with this sytem as it was designed for Atv and Off road applications the bracket that came with it is 1/4 plate drilled some holes couple of spacers and it bolts to the rear foot peg mounting holes , this can is the same material my acerbis tank is on my race bike XR650 . it does not impead my legs it sits further back then a passengers foot almost , as for 200 hp my bike stock only got 220 km max fro distance , My VN 2000 just gets 300 kms if i am lucky , some other forums i have chatted with some guys and they use pop bottles in back packs with gas in them thats a no way thanks , i have thought about a small custom aluminum tank where the passenger seat is for future , besides it s just a function thing .

That's a plan. If I were in this same predicament I would probably go this route before anything else.
