Want to be ZZR 1400 Owner

Hello all,

I need some advice on what can be done to make the 2007 ZZR 1400 a bike I can live with.

I have been offered a mint bike for a great price, so I went for a test ride on one yesterday, and hated the way it rode.

I have 2 problems with the bike:

1. bike has no power below 5000 rpm, so you can’t just blip the throttle to pass a car, it seems to give you 10% power below 5000rpm, and when you hold the throttle open instead of progressively increasing power, the bike jumps from 10% power to 100% power after 5000 rpm with the front wheel 6 feet in the air!.

2. When you are filtering between stopped cars, you can’t just flip the mirrors in to pass them, and flip them out again when you’ve passed.

I have a Suzuki Hayabusa at the moment, and don’t have any of these problems, but at 27000 miles its time for another bike.

I would be gratefull if any owners of the ZZR could let me know what can be done to solve these problems with the power delivery, and at what cost?, and apart from taking off the mirrors, is there a modification to fit some mirrors that flip?

Many Thanks,

Tony.

For you first problem, remove the 'flies'. Cost nothing. Power power everywhere when you pull the flies.

Problem #2--- No idea. Maybe something in the aftermarket???

If I could get another 14 for a sweet price, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

+1 - exhaust, PC, flies out - $1K to $1.8K depending on exhaust

I believe CRG makes some bar end mirrors - l looked into it at one time, just couldn't find any that would fit the Kawi stock bar. Besides, the 14 mirrors are some of the best looking and most useful mirrors out there. You could try Pig Spotters, but I'm not sure you'd see anything but the inside of your elbows.

Seems obvious to me that what you need is a Hayabusa.........

Once you remove the flies it will feel like a completely different bike. It's the biggest difference I have ever felt from any mod on any motorcycle. However I have never ridden a bike with a Turbo or NOS.

Make sure you install a correctly mapped Power Commander if you pull the flies. The bike will run very lean if you don't.

I collected the Bike on Thursday, and travelled 160 miles home, Great ride on the motorway.

The bike was very low on power below 5000 revs, as demo bike was, and on Friday I used the Hayabusa to go to work, and it felt like a rocket down low compared to the ZZR, and I was left thinking I have made a mistake.

Today I had the ZZR serviced, and had the secondary butterflies removed, oh my god what a difference, I had a smile on my face all the way home, It makes the Busa seem slow!

I will be adding a power commander in a few days to sort out the fuelling.

Now all I need to do is sort out the mirrors with some that flip, (I use the bike for commuting, and need to fit through the smallest gaps) which seem ashamed as the ZZR mirrors look real nice looking.

All the best,

Tony.
