Muzzy's False Advertising
First let me start by saying I like Muzzy products. I have exhausts, clutches, a basket, a Bonneville box, etc. in my collection. Hell, I just picked up an M14 exhaust last week.
But false advertising (especially on a $700 product) pisses me off.
I ordered a Muzzy damper for my 14. The photos clearly show a Hyperpro unit. I chose the Muzzy over the Brocks part partially due to the fact that we have another racebike with the Hyperpro unit. The Brocks unit was much cheaper.
Well, I got the Muzzy today. And they are now using an Ohlins part just like Brocks!
I'm not saying it is inferior...it may even be superior for all I know. All I know is that better or worse, that is not what they are advertising for sale.
Maybe this is old news. If so, they need to update the pictures on their website.

Shane I bet if you let Muzzy know about their error they'll fix the web site. Although I did all my ZX14 business with Brock's too and I prefer hyperpro dampers as well.

Shane did you call Muzzys to find out why you got an Ohlins unit instead of the Hyperpro???

I haven't called them. I'm not sure I'm going to.
When my M14 arrived, it had the wrong midpipe. It was shipped directly from Muzzys (ordered online via Star Cycle). Dave Turner did give me courteous service when I called. However, it is annoying to have several issues with them over such a short time.
So, the three issues lately:
1) Being told the M14 would not work on my 07.
2) The wrong midpipe being shipped with the M14.
3) The damper not being as advertised.
Perhaps I will give them a call next week....or not. I have to prep the bike for Maxton, so this damper is going on it.

Shane i'm betting it was just a mistake on Muzzys part , it does happen to everyone now and then ....I would call them and let them know what happened first chance you get .. I bet they will be happy to get the info so they can update the Ad .. I have a hard time believing they did it on purpose ... I also use a lot of Muzzy parts and have very good luck with them ..

I am sure that if you call Dave Turner he will take care of things. As smokin said, mistakes happen.
Rob, Dave and the rest of the Muzzy team are stand up people and always do what they say and will handle things in a professional manner.
In my opinion, you should have handled things with a phone call to Dave rather than make accusations without the facts and assuming that they did something deceptive and posting up on the board.
If you or another member here feel as though they have an issue with Muzzy's and prefer not to contact them PM me with your information and issue and I will do everything I can to help you with the issue. I just ask that you not make accusations or slam anyone here unless the facts are correct.
Rob Muzzy has been in the motorcycle industry longer than most people on this board have been riding and before some were even born.
I certainly hope you man up to an apology on this board when all the facts are presented to you.

Apologize for what? That they are selling a $700 damper that is not the product they depict in their advertisement?
Apologize for paying $111 so they would send me a replacement midpipe right away?
Apologize for spending close to $2k in the last few weeks on their products?
Come on man, get real. Like I said, I like the products....but even I have a limit to how much bullshit I am willing to put up with.

Just to be clear to everyone...the top one is the one I paid $700 for. The bottom one is the ad from their site.

That top one is worth no near 700.00 I had one almost like that that kawasaki offered in there book when I had my ZX 10 and it was less then 400. I have to say in just my opion some of Muzzy's products are priced pretty good and other ones are like no way would I pay that for it. Like there air shifter holy shit. I paid 375 for mine with two bottles and it has never missed a shift. I won't say who's it as as he is not a supporter.
And I also agree I see no reason Shane needs say he's sorry for anything. Looks like he stated the facts even if it was just a mix up on Muzzys part

Did you read the print under the picture you placed here? You may want to take a peek. And I quote " NOTE: The ZX14 Steering Damper Kit now uses an Ohlins damper. The funtion remains the same. "
I had ask that you apologize when all the facts are presented to you?
The above quote is fact.

Dude, what are you talking about???

That is the Muzzy's page. There is no print that states that.

Click on the products tab on the page you posted. It's right above the picture you posted on the left next to Muzzy's Home.Follow the catagories on the left down to suspension and click on steering dampners and you will see it there. Also right next to products is a chassis/suspension tab and if you click on it and page down you will see what I am talking about as well.

If Muzzy has it printed in some other location on the website they need to update their page above, as I initially stated.

I am keeping it. I'm just a little perturbed to get a product that is not as depicted in a prominent pictoral representation on the Muzzy site
Especially coming on the heels of being shipped an improper midpipe. And being told that the M14 wasn't applicable to my 2007. They did ultimately update their webpage on the M14.
I feel as though I am going out of my way to be a customer....with mixed results.

It took me 10 min of searching after I read your instructions to find the reference. Total BS. They should post this in all pictures and references. Send it back and demand a refund.

The thing is that I might have still bought it with the Ohlins. But the photo/ad is misleading. I researched the part on the Muzzy site (in fact the decision to buy the part took about two weeks of mulling over the various dampers) before ordering through a more local vendor.
As far as function being the same...we'll see. This damper looks like the one that came on the 10R I had. I hope it is stiffer than that unit. The Hyperpro we have has some very stiff adjustments, which I prefer for LSR.
At any rate, buyer beware.

Kawabunga not everyone is sponserd by Muzzys and if you weren't I bet you would think a company like that could take the right picture and update the website at the same time they switched over. Just my 2 cents.

I wouldn't put no Muzzy garbage on my Bike If you GAVE it to me!!! I wouldn't waste my time with calling their non cooperative asses anyway.. Just suck it up... Cause Dave is a complete fu$%ing idiot!! I had a problem with a brand new Digikill a few summers ago and they told me to ship it back to them and they test it and see what they could do... Well I ended up having to buy a dif. Kill unit and I never got to use the new/defective one I had bought and it was only 3 days old.... MUZZY Products and their customer service FLAT OUT SUCKS!!!!! I believe Schnitz has the Brock setup, which looks similar, for $525. I actually ordered the Muzzy through Schnitz. Obviously had I known that the dampers (not the mounting) were the same, it may have affected my decision since I paid $155 more to get the Muzzy.
