Modifiing the '08 14

I was just going to append another string, but I think this deserves a new one.

As you guys might remember, my bike is in the shop for a while. Thus giving me way too much time to think about how I'd like to mod this bike.

H0mr, I have the same bike as you. The Special ED 2008. I did the Heli Risers and really appreciate the extra lift. I've been combing through the posts to see what the '08 owners have done. With the increased header diameter size I wanted to see if a 4 into 1 is a must or will slip-ons suffice. Just how much more gain?

I prefer the look of the 4 into 1's but I normally I need more reason to make a big change other than good looks. I really like the look of Superman T's black Brocks. I think on the Special ED '08 the black would be the best compliment. However, I like the short Muzzy look too. I think they come in black. I just don't want anything too loud so I think that would count out the M4's. I'm guessing that short means loud...

I know I'll probably never take it to a Drag Strip or a race track because I don't know of any in WA state. Just a lot of highway and country twisty roads. Which makes me ask how the lowering links effect that type of driving. Being slightly vertically challenged, 5' 7", I'd like a little firmer footing too.

BTW, I installed a radiator guard from Ebay with the Ninja logo on it. Really looks sharp in real life... Added sliders too.

After reading all of Brock's diaries I'm not sure of removing the flies just yet. If I had the 06/07 I definitely would. Can the PC3 eventually learn how to just open the secondary’s or do they not control it? Or have the '08 changes helped enough to negate the need?

I know some may say to do the search, but as many have posted, the searches don't always post all of the data. So in my evenings at the hotel I've been just clicking on the pages. Man there's a lot... I only have 1 month out here so not enough time to read each page.

I love seeing all the pics too. There's some really hot 14's out there!!

Some guy- thanks for the shout out. I wish I could divulge some wisdom on that 08 but I'm not totally educated on that model to answer your PCIII questions... Good luck with the 14, it's a blast! Even though there's over 200 threads, the value in looking thru them are priceless. Even some of the things that I thought I was going to do(like install true HIDs) was altered to make sure the bike would function properly and ultimately look sweet. Hopefully one of the other 08 owners will chime in and give their expertise. Best Regards!

I would bet slipons will suffice. Dropping the 2 cats would surely let the motor breathe a little better. I read the new header design is pretty good for a stock setup so you might as well take advantage of it. I thought about going that way, but the added benefit of lost weight convinced me to install a new system, front to back.
Also, if you have'nt gotten your lowering links yet, I would go with the adjustable set up. I have read where some say the second hole was'nt enough drop, while the 3rd hole was too much. GL in your choices!!!!

The PC3 does Not control the secondaries, it only lets you change the amount of fuel injected. You can also change ignition timing by buying an ignition module as well (that costs as much as the PC3 itself).

kevschev, thanks for your response. I live in Spokane and have asked around about the track. I've seen bikes on trailors but never knew where they went. I asked a local small bike shop repair store if there were 'track days' at the track and they said they never heard of it.

I'm lost on the west side. I go out there for work and to visit the kids, but not much more.

Even the wife said she'd enjoy riding on a track. She has the 650r and would like to "practice" somewhere. Heck, she's even agreed to go down to California to Super Bike school. It's too bad that she's waited so long. We've been married 27 years and she's just now catching on to how much fun she's been missing.
Now I'm rambling...

Some Guy- PM me if you want to go for a ride. I live just North of Seattle, and am planning on a few rides this weekend and next week.

The '08 doesnt really need the flies out unless you are drag racing it. It does add more power, just not that big a difference to make it worth the effort IMO. Also, your best bet for exhaust is a full Muzzy M10/M14 (you can get different cans then the M14 if you want) it retails at starcycle-usa.com for $620 and up depending on muffler. Which I am installing Friday. If you want to here the Two Brothers, stop by on friday or before that!

Also, I'm going flies out on friday, too. Don't waste your time at the track unless you're into drag racing, the street track at Pacific Raceways (formerly Seattle International Raceway) is not that great, real rough and dip filled. Was hard on my car, cant imagine on a bike at full tilt! You want to hit some good roads then PM me.

Some Guy- That's pretty cool that the wife wants to drag race(most women don't so she's special). My girl loves to ride on the back of my bike but I look for the day that she draws the confidence to ride/drag by herself.

I'm sorry, I think it came out wrong. The wife would like to drive on a race track full of turns and banking. She's a little soft on racing the engine, (typical girl thinks she's gonna hurt the engine if she revs it too hard), but she loves getting on the freeway and roll-on contests. Which is why the 650r is so good for her, low end and mid-range power, not much over 9000 rpm. Her 650r is suprisingly strong at roll-ons. My son had an '07 zx-6r and she'd woop until about 80 mph.

Superman T, once the wife got a taste of riding herself, she has no interest whatsoever of being on the back. I started her off on a little 250 Eliminator. Perfect starter. Super light and easy shifting. We kept it super clean and it sold after 2 days on Craigslist. Highly recommended.

Sticks, I'm here tonight and leave for Spokane tomorrow after work. Care to go up the west side of the 90? I'll be taking the 5 to the 18 to the 90.

I was thinking of a saturday ride, guess that aint gonna happen. My group is going from Mt Baker, across the mountains and down to 90. Trying to talk them into going all the way to Mt. Ranier and making it a 500 mile ride but the 600 guys weren't to receptive. Might have to do it alone. Gotta break those new tires and pipe in!

Don't forget the 08 bike has three cats, one in the collector too. I'd go for a complete system.

I normally would agree with you, but the stock headpipes are damn good, even with the single cat still in the midpipe. No doubt you could gain 1-3 hp from a full kit versus slip-ons, and reduce more than a few pounds of dead weight, but for guys who like the dual look its finally a legit option to leave the stocker headers on it. Wish my '06 14 had those headers, because i love the look of my Two Brothers.
