Just thought i would share some pics from the track the other day.

Just thought i would share some pics from the track...
The zx 10 has a new turbo set-up he's still trying to sort out. The 08 busa was doing ok but there was a pretty big guy on it. The older busa makes 230 on spray and runs ok and the last on is Ryan Schnitz riding a SB zx10..i wont post any numbers becase i'm not sure if he was testing and i would have to ask the man first, but like the pro he is... he was riding the wheels off that thing.

That must be one big ass dude to dwarf a busa like that.
I guess they let you guys race in anything considering only one guy is suited up.
Great pics btw. I wish someone was able to take pics like that at my local track.

No, they wont let us run in anything. We had a big long talk with the new track owner this year about safety gear. The problem is he wants a big bike turn out for wednesday night test and tune. The problem (and i think this is anywhere) is 90% of your guys showing up is going to ride in off the street. Their not going to spend 4 or 5 hundred dollars on a cheap race suit and boots for test and tune.
We have to have a jacket, kill tether, gloves, helmet(duh) and boots over the ankle. They really want us to wear thick jeans or the riding jeans like the icon's with the padd'd knees. You try to be as prepaired as possible but i guess if it's going to happen it's going to happen.

That makes sense. I used to ride to test and tune when I was in texas. At my local track almost everyone is suited up. Its a NHRA track and they inforce most of the rules. And also the fact that not all that many bikes come to test and tune.

4 or 5 hundred dollars is cheap compared to the consequences you will pay if you go down in jeans, just my $.02. Everyone is smart enough to make their own decisions though.

Go down in jeans? You're supposed to take those off BEFORE you go down. No wonder those consequences of which you speak are so "stiff".

Ninjaboy not everyone is a racer as yourself. I also would not run in jeans. But that is what is killing the local bike turnout at tracks. The 16 to 20 yr old kid is not going to buy leathers to run at a 20.00 test and tune. And now a days almost all bikes will run the speed to call for leathers if the track enforces it. To bad in away.

It's not too bad, it's simply an opportunity for one of YOU to make money AND help your fellow riders. Hit up your track, ask them about setting up a suit rental area. Make sure they understand its a "value adding" benefit and as such you shouldn't be charged rent, maybe just a small percentage of the rental fees.
Go to NewEnough.com and buy a bunch of leather pants from the wholesale area ($150-200), I would say maybe 5 or 6 minimum, and 2 or 3 good quality leather jackets. Put GP armor in all of them and rent them out. Price it fairly, keep the liners of them laundered regularly, and in 6 months or so you'll be even. After that its all profit.
And I'm not even getting into the other areas you could take that, such as selling hard armor for elbows/knees to other guys, anti-fog strips for helmets, under armor, homemade "kits" to make your bike track approved, etc...

Almost forgot the biggest benefit of all: free trackdays, and you can run the track before and after the "customers" are gone. No little benefit there. That's why most track school guys work at the track!
One other thing I forgot. Sponsorship logos on the pants and jackets. Never underestimate the power of advertising dollars! How many thousands of pics and even vids are taken every day at a good sized track? Your stuff would be in most of those pics! Trust me, because that company logo on your rental equipment might just buy you your next bike.

Nick...yea i do wear them but not all the time. I should, and i do kick myself in the ass when i dont.
Pat...yes the track is great. I haven't seen you since the 'incident' with your 14..I thought you had sold it.
sticks and stones....i do agree that is a good ideal. I know always be prepared for the worse. I'm not sure how well it would go over at my track...there is alot of "grass roots" racing going on there...but it is something i will mention to the track owner. thanks for the ideal

My local lets you race down to and including a 10sec flat pass, any quicker then that you need an ANDRA licence and have your bike race scrutinered, for the above 10sec passes you are only required to wear boots, jacket, gloves, jeans, shirt, helmet and clean undies.. Bare minimum should be Kevlar re-enforced Jeans like the Draggins or Ixon..
