Exhaust Question.
Will a slip on muffler really give me a little more horsepower? Or will the power stay the same or actually lose some because of the stock tune? I want a slip on, but I don't want to lose any power.

Advantages: Run much cooler, loose some weight, Sound much better, Run a bit richer without a Power commander hence better performance "slightly" Pull the flies get a PC and its a whole new bike.

Would'nt opening up the exhaust(slip ons), actually lean the bike out some instead of richening it up? Also, people way smarter then me are saying leave the flies in on the 08's.

Not sure if it actually leans/richens. When I hammered the cat out of my 12, I could smell a lot of fuel at the tailpipe. I'm assuming, the cat which usually burns that extra fuel is letting it exit unspent. So in theory, I considered it running 'rich'.
FWIW, my Brock map was rich down low because of my elevation AND it had the same excessive fuel smell at the tailpipe until I got it dynotuned.
Why would opening the exhaust up make it leaner? I know this has been discussed in great depth, but I don't recall the answer.

Correct ! With lower back pressure the bike will indeed run leaner at idle. But at high throttle the bike will be allowed more air and more fuel. With less restrictive back pressure. The main advantage in my opinion is getting ride of the hot gasses quicker. I noticed a differnce with my slip-ons before i installed my PC. But a louder bike always feels faster ya know !

I guess it would depend on fuel delivery systems also. Now that I think about it, there is no oxygen sensor on the zx's pipe, right? There has to be something somewhere though. I would imagine it would try to compensate for the loss of backpressure and richen things up. I guess the band is'nt very wide or we would'nt have to buy power commanders then? We also have'nt mentioned the front end, a new free flowing air filter would help performance and I would think it would lean things out a bit there also....

The bikes computers are not that smart''yet. The program thats in the bike from the factory won't change when you put a free flowing ex on it. If in fact the system you choose is flowing better than the stk system the bike will run lean with out some sort of fuel adder, but the 14's that i have seen here without p/c's seem to run for a while like this. bill......

Do a search and read all about it!
Get her done!
Make sure you follow the steps and warm up the bike before you do it...
Be prepared to remove a stripped screw head. (keep you head dont panic.)
Do roll the throttle when you are removing the fly's. Make it so no one can move the throttle.
