Hmm, this has me wondering now. Since i'v owned the bike new i have always heard a knock/clunk sound from the rear suspension over bumps. I can feel it on the left foot rest. At first i thought it could be chain slap, but its not. Still did the same thing after i lowered it and stretched it also, nothing has changed. I'v looked all around for anything loose but dont see anything.. Now i wonder if i do bring it in to the dealer, how much shit/hassle they are gonna give me for it being modified..? "Sir its probally your extensions or the nos bottle making the noise, we cant find anything wrong" Blaw blaw

Take the bike to a competent dealer'' Have them look at it,if it's not cracked your fine, The problem is motor install from factory. Its real easy for them to tell. If you have had your motor out you better have it checked'' Burnout zx14 don't sweat it take it in kaw knows its their problem, being stretched has nothing to do with it. If your dealer gives you shit show them the recall and the nhtsa.dot listing. Then go to another dealer with the info. LMK how you make out.... Bill....

I figure since my bike is 2 years old now ('06) if it was going to crack it probably would have by now.
I have to give Kawasaki credit for stepping up on this. If they only have 5 cracked frames as someone else mentioned, it's a pretty small number. I wonder how may '14's were built in 06/07? What is the guess in cost to completely strip down a bike and rebuild it on a new frame? Labour cost has to be huge........how many hours would be involved in doing this? It scares me a bit how good the build quality would be considering some of the monkeys that work at some of the shops I have seen. Probably hand your bike back and a bag of 'extra' left over fasteners!
Is the recall 'Evergreen'? I mean if your frame checks out fine now but cracks 2 years from now are you still covered if you reponded to the initial recall?
Questions, questions....

Well we didn't poo poo the fact that it happened ...We could clearly see the pictures of the cracked frames that were posted ...Some did as myself the poo poo the how and why the frame cracked..
I and a few others saw what the problem or cause of the cracked frames some time back .. Others and myself reported that removing or installing the lower motor mount bolts and spacer would cause this problem ..I think some of these broken frames were cause by the owner or shop that pulled these motors for whatever reason .. ( repairs or hot rodding the motor ) Now we can also see that mother Kawi may have installed a few motors and got the torq spec of the frame spacer and that may have cause a problem in a small number of bikes ....A two year run of these bikes and looks like we have 5 that went bad .. Some may have been Kawi falt and some may have been the owners doing ...We will never know for sure..
Good news were the reports of this that caused the recall ...Now if down the road years from now your frame cracks on you 06 07 zx14 you will get a free frame and repair !!!! Once you go to the dealer for the recall and has passed inspection you will still be covered if down the road if it does crack ... The recall never ends or goes away...

Well, that answers one of my questions that the recall is 'Evergreen'.
So as long as you don't die when your frame fails on a high speed corner, they will rebuild you a new bike! So far it it does not seem that anyone has crashed due to a frame failure which is fortunate.
Checked mine closely tonight with my mag light to really light up the area. Looks fine. Have it happened on both the right and left sides of the bike or have the failures always been on the same side?

I have seen it on both sides ..Like you said check your frame before you ride and you should be just fine ... Also if you do get on the recall list make sure you get the recall done .... If the dealer does the recall and the frame cracks after guess what ??? NEW FRAME ... Either way Kawi picks up the tab ...
The only real problem is will the dealer do it right and what about the frame VIN numbers ?? You can't just stamp numbers in the frame and call it a day ...That is against the law for anyone including the dealer ...Only the DMV and give out a new number and that means new title or salvage title ....It's hard to sell a bike that has had the frame replaced, oh you can sell it but for a lot less money ....Better deal would be for Kawi to replace your bike with a new one ...

Not that's what I'm talking about, I sure could use a fresh motor. Mine runs great, but would be nice to start with a new one. Too bad there isn't a recall that would replace your entire engine with a new one.

Thanks Bill... I went to the dealer i bought my bike from and they knew nothing of it, just gave me attitude. I showed them the printed copy of the safer.gov paper but they said they cant do anything untill they get word from Kawi. But i will go back next week and check agian.
Anyhow does anyone know where the cracks are? Or pics of the cracked areas? I'd really like to check mine just for piece of mind for now.. Thanks!

Yeah Burnout, I've had the exact same issue, even posted it up here but no one else seems to have that problem. I thought that only the RIGHT side was susceptible to cracking so I only looked there. I just ran out and cleaned/looked at it and didnt see anything, but I'll wait until I put it up on my stand to be sure.
Now fellas, are we talking about the lowest engine mount? with a 1" or so spacer between the frame and engine? There is a couple engine mounts in the area, just want to be sure>

I think my 14 is ok, I'm in around that area of the frame quite a bit when I change suspension height and haven't noticed anything.
However, this might be of interest. I sent email to Kawasaki UK a couple of days ago asking for information on this and the silence so far is deafening. They probably can't respond until a corporate decision has been made about European ZZR1400's. I'll post if I do receive a response from them.
